I have an intermittent fault that resets when I shutdown and restart. I would like to be able to plug in my Creator 310 code reader when the fault shows up to catch it, but the instructions caution that it should only be plugged in with the car off. What is the reason for the caution? Should I plug it in while the car is running to see the fault?
If i follow the directions, I'll have to plug it in before I start the car and keep it attached and dangling in the foor well to catch the reason for my service engine light. |

No. Faults are not all stored if they reset. I've run into this before where the dealer can't do anything unless the fault is happening at the time they looked at it. I get the half full yellow engine lamp and reduced power "limp mode" but it resets after a restart. I suspect HPFP, but I see no codes related to that after a restart. Got a new issue this morning red temp lamp and no engine power. Motor running but no power. Had to pull over and tow to dealer. I believe the electric water pump is dead on that issue. I'll connect my scanner the next time it happens while I still have the engine lamp if dealer finds nothing to cause the "limp mode" |
