Totally Hidden - Hide the gauge always, manually reveal it when needed, poor line of sight. 4 7.41%
Masked - Guage masked while parked, "reveals" itself when the car is startet, OK line of sight. 20 37.04%
Extremely Visable - Shove a pod on my fricken FACE! I wanna see that boost NOW! 2 3.70%

POLL: What is most important when deciding on a boost gauge location

Basically as the title states... Obviously there are going to be different opinions, but I want to see the overall bias.

What is the most important aspect of choosing a location for an add-on gauge, such as a boost guage.

Just doing a little R&D ... feel free to post suggestions, and defend your opinion.

Also feel free to suggest locations... nothing is out of the question... Examples would be....

Ashtray... Steering Column... Air Vent.... etc...

Thanks..

IMHO placement for gauges in general should be where there's minimal head movement. Thats why you always see gauges on the pillar or right next to the steering wheel column.

So my vote is direct line of sight. Shoved in my face is a little much. lol

I think the perfect placement would be steering column.

I agree ...but how you can do that without ruining the interior of the car???

a gauge in the middle of nowhere will make the car look so "unstylish"

I would have to agree... not to mention, most anything would block the already cramped stock gauges...

I am surprised nobody has mentioned a vent gauge, the audi crowd sure loves them...

The vent is fine too. Its in your line of sight. Having it in the ashtray is kinda dumb. Function over form.

I was stalling for someone to come out with a vent gauge, even called some of the Audi people. However, the vent location is just too low, imho. Maybe something in the gauge cluster or Nav area, ...up high where it's close to your line of sight.

Corky Bell says: Put it in the glovebox. You dont need to see it all the time. Boost doesn't change unless you change it.

Thats not true... boost changes dramatically based on outside temp, etc...

This is because the DME raises boost to compensate for hotter weather

As an example... I boost 6psi stock at 30 degrees F, and 9psi stock at 80F.

and *most* piggybacks don't do anything about it... meaning that you could be boosting 17psi on hot days when you set up your tune to only boost 14... Ask me how I know...

I like the idea of a 3rd hump (between the navi and steering humps), I think I have seen a pic of something similar from Hartage?

I think vent would be nice but it is not in my line of sight. I think the current location is probably best.....IMO

you'd be surprised how many cars don't have navi... my dealer doesnt even stock cars with navi... its on custom order cars only.

I voted for highly visable... I think if its not in your line of sight then its useless (unless you want to use it for datalogging I guess).

And what? Does seeing this happen as you drive mean anything to you? Really? Its not like having an oil temp or oil pressure gauge, which show critical information at all times. Boost is electronically controlled, and as I said earlier, that doesn't change unless you change it. If you do change it, you would only need to verify that on the gauge once.

Driving a car with a boost gauge is for ricers. Sorry guys. I didn't expect you to like being called that, but its the truth.

Dont be mad...

I guess you don't know much about the 335i. Boost DOES change without you changing it. Ask guys who had V2 and catless DPs. Also, it is a critical piece of information because if you see it SPIKE then you wouldn't drive aggressively or WOT all the time until you get a chance to change it.

Do you have a tune, or better yet a 335i?
