Strange brake problem on E90 330D M Sport
I have a E90 330D M Sport LCI 2010 and have a weird brake problem
I thought I had warped my brakes because I had brake Vibrations and had low pads on the rears so bought new front disc/pads and new pads on rear I purchased from GSM, brembo brakes and pads ( so not cheap china stuff ) All fitted and vibrations all gone, happy days. Then about 1 month later it started again, it got worse and worse. So managed to take the back to GSM and replaced the front discs. All good again Now its started again 1 month later. I don't get any shaking on the steering wheel or brake pedal pump/vibrations, its like the has hot spots on the discs. It happens when the brakes warm up after a few miles I drove down a hill and put the car in Neutral and slowly drove the hill resting my foot on the brake pedal and you can feel it has some sort of hot spots on the discs. Its like on/off/on/off feels really weird I spoke to a BMW garage and they said it could be anything, like a bush or even a hub. I just don't know where to start next, seems weird that replacing the front discs resolve the problem for a few miles/months and then comes back. Something must be causing damage to the disc Can anyone help please Many Thanks |

I recently had vibrations at high speed (see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1404017)
Turned out to be my rear discs. The difference in our scenarios is that mine only occurred at high speed, and didn't make much difference when changing out the fronts. My advice would be to first off to get a brake check done. The garage should put it onto rollers and apply the brakes. If the pressure fluctuates then its an issue with the braking system. If it doesn't fluctuation then the vibration must be coming from a suspension component. When you say it comes back in a few months, is it a gradual thing or does it come back all at once? |

Well if you've done all disks and pads from what you're discribbing your calipers could do with being cleaned and perhaps seals replaced. More than likely: have you had the fluid flushed and replaced? Many garages don't do it even though it takes 30 mins back and front and is easy peasy. Also get the brake lines checked. Any Speedy garage etc will do this for you for a good price. Failing that it could be the master cylinder but I strongly doubt it.
Either way BMW should have checked this for you as a matter of urgency as it is security related. |

I had a similiar problem on my E46. After many months, i never resolved the problem, and the only thing i didn't replace were the front hubs!

Do you brake heavily &/or from high speed to a stop & hold the car stationary on the brakes? If you do you can cause 'heat soak' into the disks, leaving deposits &/or distorting the brake discs. Just pop it into neutral & use the hand brake.
It could also be that you have a sticking calliper
