Xdrive rough shifts (auto) Rolling diameter culprit?

Hi all,

So ive been running a staggered setup for about a year now on my 2011 e92 xdrive (F:225/40/18, 245/35/18 R)which yields a rolling diameter change of front to back of -1.352. More so lately, ive been feeling rough and very rough gear changes, especially at low speeds. Its almost like the car is slipping in and out of gears. My front tires are also a lot more worn, almost bald, when the rears look fresh. I understand that <1% is recommended for awd but could this be the issue? and is it possible that I may have permanently damaged something? I dont have another set of wheels to test on unfortunately

I get rough shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 at slow speeds. It gets better as I drive longer. Read that it needs a transmission software update and others say its what BMW's do. But if it is an issue that has not happen before.. then it may be the >1% difference that is affecting your drivetrain (power through your transfer case to wheels). I'm no xdrive expert but that my opinion.

Doesnt hurt to go get it checked out

I'm 95% sure they did the update at my dealer before it went out of warranty. I'm replacing the wheels+tires with a set that's only .4 off. The only savior that I have is that I got the AA headers+tune which I believe changes shift points? So once that's installed i hope it's all good. My issue is sporadic and the driving length doesn't really matter. I need a ton of work for my car and now I'm debating if buying instead of leasing was a good idea after all :|

TBH, i changed the transfer case oil at 70000km. It's much smoother.

Rolling diameter variance is harder on the transfer case then the transmission. I would do fresh fluid and a new pan/filter on the tranny.

The xdrive flush kit is $51 on ECS, im going to have to start there along with the other mods already purchased, wheels/tires w/diameter within spec and will update

I was chasing down a vibration between shifts (manual) and it turned out that the rolling diameter difference was the culprit. I had 235F 265R and when I experienced this issue and when I switched back to 235F 275R, the issue went away.

Time for new rubber.

Interesting...well, wheels and tires will be here sometime next week, so if that solves ill be more than happy. Im also doing the flush cause it looks easy/cheap.

I also have a very noticeable limp ? when im rolling at slow speeds like 10-30, its not every rotation so i dont think its tired related, overall the suspension ride has gone to shit Shocks and springs are getting done in 2 weeks so maybe the installers catch the issue (I hope) I need a good shop in NJ thats not gonna **pe me cause this car is costing me more to own than a new lease.... sad.jpeg

Doesn't anyone go square anymore? I previously had 255/35/18 at all (4) corners and how have 245/40/18 summer wheels and tires at all (4) corners. NO rolling diameter difference issues.
