29E1 and 2EF8 Codes

29E1 - Mixture control 2
2EF8 - Map thermostat, activation

Got these codes along with an amber engine light on the dash (according to the manual it's an exhaust emmisions warning). I accidentally reset the codes and they never came back. Took the car a 40 minute drive and they never came back on. Regardless it'll be going into my mechanics to be looked, but are there any steps for a hint on what these could mean/be caused by?

Car is stock bar a Mishimoto OCC, VRSF Chargepipe and a HKS BOV. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a bit of a noob.

Cars booked in for a thermostat replacement and a diagnostic/hunt for what's causing the 29E1 message.

From reading the internetz it's saying as preventative maintenance replace the water pump as well. The cars done 80,000 miles, but I've read guys saying they've seen healthy waterpumps at 140,000 miles. What be the communities advice on this? I'm leaning more to replace it... it's just parting with £500 is gonna hurt ha. But then that compared to a melted engine bill isn't much.

I'd do the water pump at the same time as the thermostat, mine went at 76k miles. Didn't have any thermostat issues yet though so I would say it's a crap shoot between what lasts longer. You should also be able to find both online for under $500 USD unless you go to a dealer. OEM equivalent, not junk. Continental pump and Behr thermostat.

As for the 29E1, my guess would be pre-cat o2 sensors. I'm having DME mixture control codes right now and that's what I'm going to replace on Friday/Saturday. Will let you know

Cheers mate I'll look into the OEM equivelant stuff, I was priced £425 and £91.50 from the dealer for the pump and stat.

Well from speaking to my buddy he seems to agree. He said as the car will running cold it'll be running rich, which makes sense as my MPG has been decreasing. He said if it's been running rich it may have damaged the sensor.

As for hoses and what not, does anyone recommend replacing any hoses while everything is off?

My waterpump and thermostat kit also came with the U shaped hose for between the water pump and thermostat I believe. Also, don't forget the one time use aluminum bolts that you need to replace when doing this job. And a gallon of blue BMW coolant, dilute 50/50 with DISTILLED minerals.

No other hoses were replaced

I found this guys. Pump is VDO, Stat is Wahler. it's $200 cheaper than going genuine BMW but are these parts OEM equivalent? Nissabaru after you mentioned the VDO I googled it and found apparently Continental VDO supply BMW the water pump and after some research Wahler are also a BMW supplier, so technically they should be?

Has anyone used this kit before and would recommend it?

That's the one I used but I bought it from oembimmerparts.com, either way same parts. As I understand it, VDO is a division of Continental. Wahler also seems to be associated with Behr too, probably in the same way as VDO/Continental. But those are the right parts.

If you're somewhat mechanically inclined you should try this yourself. I suggest using small ratchets or combo wrenches though because the orientation on the hose clamps are sometimes put on all shitty making it hard to reach. Very doable though
