NYPD dented my car.. Small Claims Court?

About 6 months ago my car was towed (It was in a commercial loading zone with confusing signs - my fault). I picked it up from the NYPD Tow Pound and there was a fresh dent/scratch down to the metal in the door panel. I made the tow pound note the damage in their log and filed a claim with the city Comptrollers office, but that has gone nowhere for 6 months. I've seen the tow pound intake report and there's no mention of damage on the door. Anyone have this happen before? I'm considering going to small claims court..

You have evidence so file a claim with your insurance and let them take care of it. For fucks sake this is what you have insurance for. Unless you like wasting time and money dealing with a NYC small claims court.

Geico rejected my claim and sent the letter below (They won't pay city tow related damage)

Please see your New York Family Auto Policy which states as follows:
SECTION III - PHYSICAL DAMAGE COVERAGES
YOUR PROTECTION FOR LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR

EXCLUSIONS
10. to loss resulting from:
(a) the acquisition of a stolen vehicle;
(b) any governmental, legal or other action to return a vehicle to its legal, equitable, or beneficial owner, or anyone
claiming an ownership interest in the vehicle;
(c) any confiscation, seizure or impoundment of a vehicle by governmental authorities

Where are you located? Just go to a civil court in the 5 boroughs and fill out a small claims it's $20 to file
