Luxury or Speed? Range Rover Velar or Grand Cherokee Trackhawk?
Thought this would be a good unbiased place to ask.
I am ready to get out of my xc90 T8, have had many issues, and my local dealer is just incompetent. I am debating between getting a range rover velar first edition (dealer has one coming in late this month) or a Jeep trackhawk. Both similarly sized, both about the same price when optioned out. But still two different cars. I know this is all subjective, but what would you prefer? The extra speed? Or the extra luxury? I have had both a range rover and a jeep before, and I liked them both. I prefer the looks and luxury of the range rover, but like the speed and the ability to have android auto with the jeep. |

Damn, I was looking at a Volvo S-90 T5 for the winter, maybe even getting rid of my 2-series. Now you've scared me away from that idea.
As for speed and luxury, SUV speed is an animal I'm not familiar with. As for sport coupe versus luxury? I'm starting to question the speed versus luxury choice myself. A lot depends if you have others cars at your disposal. I'm a little worried Im going to get pulled over for speeding and seriously considering a luxury sedan that can handle some snow. To me the Jeep GC is getting a little old, but I think Id rather have a Jeep then a RR. |

A/c cooling issues that still aren't fixed. Infotainment center reboots, plug in charging now doesn't work anymore. Temp sensor has been replaced twice and it still thinks it is 60 degrees outside when it's really 100. It's small things that add up, and when they are not able to get fixed it just gets frustrating.

Android isn't a problem for the Velar (inControl Pro Duo and Just Drive are even better than Android Auto or CarPlay IMO) Last edited by lemetier; 08-19-2017 at 10:42 PM.. |

My vote is the Velar, there's nothing out there like it, the interior is phenomenal

So you want something else since you are fed up with issues and dealer backup and your first choices are a Jeep and a Rover....
To not go nuts or broke I'd probably do a lease on the Trackhawk if those where my only choices. In the overall class I'd rather go X5M or Cayenne if price is ok. Should be far less issues and still very fast. |

I really only keep cars for about 2-3 years. The Volvo was the only car I wanted to get out of even sooner. Again, I am used to cars having some issues, I usually end up with first year models. But if the dealer can't fix the problems, and the car is at the dealer more than it is at home, then it just gets frustrating. |

RRs of late a great looking cars and I debated hard getting RR Sport couple of years back. Sadly, everyone I know who bought one ended up having different, never ending troubles. Ironically, my brother told me a joke just this morning - Why do RR owners never greet each other? Because they already met at a repair shop in the morning.

I would choose the Velar. I really like the exterior and interior features. It's luxurious and yet powerful, at the same time.
I think it has some pretty good tech parameters. (source:https://www.auto-data.net/en/?f=showCar&car_id=29540)

You want real luxury? buy a c class sedan or S class for half the price you're paying You want real speed and performance? ZL1,z06 or a hellcat You want real luxury and real performance get a C63/S63 AMG, CTSV, M5,RS7 ect just don't buy a 100k converted offroad vehicle that can't actually offroad. Snicker. I'm of the "all SUVs suck" camp too, but given those two choices, Jeep all day.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee as a daily.
There's a list of Pros and Cons for both vehicles, however, after pricing was revealed for the Trackhawk, there's no way in hell that I would recommend spending that much on that particular vehicle. It's drastically overpriced. Both the exterior and interior only slightly differ than the run of the mill Grand Cherokee. The interior especially is not in the same class as the RR. It's a sea of plastics. The vehicle hasn't had a major design change since it came to the market in 2011. Sure the front clip and the taillights changed and the transmission went to the ZF 8 speed. But really, it's aging. I could never spend 6 figures on one unfortunately. The performance is amazing though. It's fast, I mean, really fast. But you have to ask yourself, are you actually going to use like half of that performance at anytime? It's muscular, sounds amazing, and will put a smile on your face, I just don't see it being worth anywhere near the asking price, let alone 6 figures after optioning it out. Really too bad. The Velar on the other hand looks beautiful in pictures and videos, I haven't seen one in real life to judge. |

I've had a ton more issues with my BMW. Now the cheaper you go with Range Rovers, the more issues you have. That's why Sports were POS. |
