UR CAI Install and Video
Alright Everyone I thought I would document my Ultimate Racing Cold Air Intake install experience and share with everyone. This is a conclusive DIY guide for anyone who buys a used UR intake and doesn’t have the instructions.
So first off you will need: 8mm socket 10mm socket 10mm wrench A few flathead screwdrivers stubby and long preferably Wheel lug socket 16 or 17mm I believe…can’t remember A size T20 torx head driver Some double sided tape and scissors Car jack ![]() I decided to paint my Chrome intake black…Need a can of primer and Hammered finish black paint to simulate the powder coat look…Turned out pretty nice and for about 10 bucks ![]() ![]() Pop the hood and let her cool off…Grab a beer or two ![]() I used the screwdriver to pop off the intake latches…much easier ![]() Take off the cover ![]() Take out the filter ![]() Unclip the black thingymadoo that wraps around the intake ![]() Now use the long flathead screwdriver to loosen the C clamp holding the first turbo intake pipe to the air box ![]() Un clip the snorkel ![]() I used the stubby screwdriver to loosen the second turbo intake clamp behind the air box…the stubby screwdriver is easier to maneuver back there. ![]() Undo the 3 rubber harness clips, some people have problems with these but mine slid right off with some wiggling ![]() Now the air box is ready to be removed ![]() Use the T20 torx driver to undo the two screws holding in the snorkel ![]() Remove the snorkel ![]() I placed the screws back in the snorkel and also reassembled the air box for safe keeping ![]() Use the 10mm socket wrench to take off the two nuts holding the power steering fluid reservoir to its bracket. ![]() Now be careful because there are spacers in the bolt holes of the reservoir that will fall out, I managed to catch one but the other fell down into the engine bay…More on this buggar later... ![]() Now use the 10mm socket wrench with extension to undo the nuts holding the bracket in place, you have to push some hoses aside to get to the bottom two. ![]() Un clip the two hoses at the bottom of the bracket and pull her out. ![]() I assume you all know how to take the front drivers side tire off…First borrow your roommates car jack, yank the E-brake, find the jack plate on the frame, loosen all 5 lugs before lifting the car, lift, remove all lugs and center cap, pop off the tire and your done… ![]() Use the flat head screwdriver to undo the latches on this panel and take it off ![]() Get down on the ground…I’m still in my uniform because I was so excited to install my intake I decided I didn’t have time to change! ![]() ![]() You will have to remove 8mm bolts in these locations and one 10mm nut at the yellow arrow ![]() I didn’t feel like screwing with prying the cover all the way out so I just bent it to the side. ![]() When I bent it to the side my lost spacer from the power steering reservoir popped out from its hiding place so I went ahead and remounted the reservoir with the new UR supplied bracket which I also painted black. This is where you use the 10mm wrench on the bottom of the bolts as you tighten the nuts. ![]() Now you are ready to wiggle the intake tubing into its place…takes a little ‘persuasion’ Be sure to remember to hook the vac hose back up, I chose to bend it under the piping, you can swivel the small tube around to accomodate this. ![]() Pop in the rear tube and use the stubby screwdriver to tighten and then pop in the front tube and use the normal length screwdriver to tighten. ![]() Now get back on the ground and pop on the filter. ![]() Refer to picture of splash guard to reinstall all your fender bolts, put the wheel back on, and your DONE!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Mine was chrome, you prime it with a special chrome pimer and get a spray paint that has a wrinkle or rough finish to it so it looks like its powder coated...It looks great now but Im not sure how it will hold up. I'm sure if the dealer found out I had it they would document it and deny any warranty claim I make on the drivetrain because of it. Thats why I will be uninstalling it everytime I take her in for scheduled maintenance.

Looks and sounds great I just wish they'd make some sort of cover to go over the area thats now exposed from the factory airbox being removed. It would look so much more finished and clean with a piece there. I dunno maybe it's just me..

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139892 I think I am going to buy an extra snorkel and air box cover to make this MOD. Team URI...I think you may have some buyers of a retro fitted cover of similar look as long as it can be removed and put back to stock. Thoughts?

I say keep the snorkel uninstalled, that way the scoops are dumping air at the front of the engine, keep the cover plate the same shape but turn the vents towards the airflow...not sure what they would be cooling but it would look like they were doing something!

Great job with the DIY. Clear instructions, excellent photos.
I like the idea of using the air flow from the snorkle fitting for something. It would nice to route it towards the turbos or the rear of the engine.
