Has anyone replaced glow plug relay?

So cars starting a little rough on cold start and the car is shaking when it 1st starts.

I know the problem is the glow plug relay module as thats what it come up as on a fault read last year but have put the job off as it wasnt that bad but is now getting worse.

Is it easy to access? Seen a few dodgy youtube videos of people doing it from the top but read its alot easier to get it up on a ramp and do it from underneath?

All help/feedback appreciated

Reece

If it's the 335d engine easiest way would to take the inlet mani off and access is there.

The 4 pot engine iirc can be accessed without taking mani off from under the engine bay

Pretty sure it's in the same place as my 335d unless someone can correct me.

I did a DIY for mine here:

The 335D is an M57 Engine whereas the 330D LCI uses the N57 and the location of the controller is slightly different, I recently went to do this myself but realised I had been shipped the wrong part.

It's tight to get to but you can do it without removing anything other than the engine cover, unplugging it is difficult though.

I can try and snap a pic of the location if you like?

As for the Glow Plug controller - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Glow-Plug-...4AAOSwx2VZiBhN

Have you brought from that seller before?
If you could take a snap that would be very helpful

No I've not bought from that particular seller but I most likely will soon, looking at their feedback I wouldn't be too concerned about ordering.

No problem, I'll snap a pic shortly...

I Hope this helps..

I believe you'll need a 10mm socket, there are 2 bolts top and bottom of the unit, you'll be able to feel them when you get your hand in there...

No problem, once you've undone the bolts you'll be able to move it around a little but I found it a complete PITA to try and unplug due to the space.

Good luck!

That's why this forum is so great! That looks a lot easier to get at than mine! Plugs can be tight. I had to use tools to ease mine off. Good luck mate!

I've got this to do on my 335D so bought the controller (Beru), 6 x glow plugs (Beru) & inlet manifold gasket kit (Elring) from www.buycarparts.co.uk

Prices looked better than I found elsewhere.

They're actually based in Germany but everything arrived quickly and without issue.

Hopefully the glow plugs are ok and its just the relay, thats what the fault code was anyway, il give it a go and see if it does the trick

Just pulled my cover off, looks tricky but it should be ok, the plugs are always difficult to get off anything on these cars

Yeah mine is showing errors on all glow plugs so I'm pretty certain it's the controller but I thought I may as well do the glow plugs at the same time. Hopefully get it done next week.

I had a look today and couldn't get the connections off. I was pressing on the tab but it wasn't coming off.

Any tips?
