Post Heated Seat Repair

Hi all,

With "Summer" now in retreat I thought I would investigate why my heated seat has never worked. Google searches only had people complaining about this issue with no fix's so hopefully this will be helpful to someone.

Symptoms:
- seat heating button would immediately turn off
- error code in regards to heating back cushion

Fixing:
1. Remove plastic cover (there are two plastic plugs that hold these in at the bottom)

2. Remove the under side flap. These are only held on by plastic clips/slots

3. One the flap is removed:

4. Here is the wire that feeds the heating pad:

5. Following this wire it turns out that it was somehow cut:

6. I pushed my hand under the the leather cover to see if i could locate the heating pad. I managed to locate the other half of the wires. These are pushed through a hole in the foam padding behind the metal plate shown above. I pulled these out and under the metal plate so i could gain access:

7. Quick trip to Maplins to get some wire to connect both ends. Tipped these with solder and tripped the other ends:

8. Solder everything together, heat shrink it up and go mad with the insulating tape. I also taped the wires out of the way to try and avoid this happening again:

9. Moment of truth!:

Fully functioning heated seats! The process took around 50 mins (mainly working out how to dismantle the seat!) and does not require any specialist tools.

Excellent work. Always nice to see someone successfully diagnose and fix a problem. Hopefully it will help someone else out too.

Reminds me, I still need to replace the pump for my lardosis pad! From your DIY it looks like it should be an easy job.
