Headlamp Question
Hi all. New guy here.
My 4th BMW, this one is a '09 e92 with xenon adaptive headlights. One of my high beam bulbs has burnt out, kind of important with my 12 mile commute through deer country when it's still dark. I was set to order a D1S bulb made by Flosser, then noticed in my Bentley manual (page 630-20) that the high beam bulbs on the xenon system are conventional halogens). It calls for an H7 55w halogen bulb. Does this sound correct ? I want to make sure I get the right bulb. Thanks. |

I'm guessing the Bentley manual must be talking about the sedan/wagon when they say that the high beams with Xenons are halogen.
I believe the Coupe and convertible are different. I just saw the E92 bulb list above as a sticky. I'll get a DS1 bulb ordered. Thanks. |

Update. I finally got around accessing my high beam bulbs to so I could put in the new DS-1 bulb I ordered.
By then both of my inner bulbs had quit working. Opened the hood and popped off the covers so I could get to the bulbs, and they are an H8 halogen, not a DS-1. Lux Angel Eyes above and one of the Techs at Bavarian Auto both told me I needed a DS-1 Xenon bulb. I replaced both halogen bulbs with some Phillips bulbs, made in Germany and look like the same exact bulbs that came stock. Neither of them work when I put the high beams on. Could it be something else like a relay or control module ? I might add that when I am driving and try to put the high beams on, there is a slight increase in distance I can see, but not much. Not like it should be with the brights on. |

Did you open the cap on the top of the headlight? That has the angel eye bulb and cornering light bulb. You have to remove the wheel well liners to access the panel on the back of the headlight for the xenon bulb.

I did take off the wheel and wheelwell liner last week, and it does access the Xenon bulb, but they still work ( at least on low ).
The inner two headlights don't come on when I flip to high beam. I thought the lid on top gave access to the angel eye bulb and cornering bulb, too. But that halogen bulb looks right out the inner lenses that aren't lighting up. Is that the cornering light ? If the Xenon bulbs are both low and high as Lux Angel Eyes said above, the bulb can burn out on high but low will still work ? |

This morning when I started up the car, I turned the wheel and saw that the inner lights are the cornering ones.
I remember seeing that H3 bulbs were used somewhere, but mine were H8 bulbs. So as far as my high beams, the shutter or mirror, that moves must have quit working on one side, then the other a couple weeks later. |
