Trading up?!

Hello ladies and gents.
I?m posting here to ask for very much needed feedback/opinions. Currently I own a 2011 535i m sport and I?m thinking of trading it in for a 2014 X5 m sport v8 (its very heavily loaded).

Has anyone made this kind of jump before? Are there any reasons to not do it? Other than my reasons for more space and I love the horse power of it, I?m really on the fence about it.

Is $50k too much for a 2014 x5 v8 with 30k miles? It?s being sold by a bmw dealership.
Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

We would need to know a full list of options but I would say way over priced. Good luck.

I think it comes down to use and what your goal is. Both of those vehicles will depreciate pretty substantially.

1. Are you trading the 5 series or selling privately?
2. Are you losing warranty on the 11' and gaining on the 14'

I haven't decided if I would trade in the 5 series yet but on Monday I will check with my local mechanic who I know and trust because he said that he would buy my car from me. I'll try to meet up with him on Monday or Tuesday this week to see what he would give for it.

Yeah I'm out of warranty for about 2 years now on my 535i and I would gain a warranty on the X5 however, that warranty would only be good until the middle of 2019 due to its age.

Hey Boo-M3

I agree I do think it's priced high but i expect CPO's to be priced higher at a BMW dealership. Not saying it's justifiable but just expected. It's in really good shape though and fully loaded btw to include the B&O sound system!

That is a very nice list of options, from memory I can't recall what options you are not getting. I'm seeing a CPO range with similar mileage from $42k to $51k but it does appear that you are better optioned than most cars. I found a $51,000 M-Sport with 10,000 miles and still under original warranty for appx 6 months.
26,000 miles with appx 6 months warranty for $44,000.
So all things said, you are probably a little better optioned and you are getting a longer warranty. But you could always buy an aftermarket warranty and still be a little cheaper buying a lower priced M-Sport.
I'm sure you have found a great car and the price is acceptable to all parties. You can drive yourself crazy looking for the best deal. If your car is local then take that into account on shipping or taking the time to fly in etc...

Thanks for all the helpful advice! I really appreciate it a lot. You are absolutely correct, it's driving me crazy to find a better or just as good deal and I only started looking yesterday evening. I love the ton of features on this vehicle for sure which is what is making it hard to find anything else for the money. I just wish it was one year newer honestly.

As much as I like a good BMW it's just a hard pill to swallow when considering to pay $50k for a 4 year old vehicle even though it's almost completely optioned out. I guess all things considered it's still a good problem to have.

Anyone have some mention in reference to the drivetrain and/or engine? Personal experiences with higher than normal maintenance costs or problems?
