Door rattles

It seems after owning a Subaru Legacy for 3 years and not suffering any rattles at all, after 3 weeks ownership of a nice new 320d Coupe, I have rattles within both doors

It seems on the passenger side the speaker is rattling - any tips to tighten it up?

On the drivers side it seems to be something within the door itself - any tips?

Me being a perfectionist can not live with rattles

Could this be down to frameless windows - the Legacy has these as well and didn't suffer?

Thanks

BTW, my suggestion had a reasoning behind it. Can you figure it out?

it could be that the door sills (rubber) needs treatment with some gummi fledge or carbaflo. My doors started rattling after a few weeks of ownership and it was the local car wash and some dodgy chemicals on the door rubbers making them hard. After treatment will carbaflo the noise went, BMW do state that the door rubbers do not need treatment (in the manual) but I find they do. I need to lube every 2 months or so

Have a search on the forum you should get lots of results, it was quite a common issue on e60's where some owners needed to use teflon strips!

However this may not be your problem after all! try and lower the window - this will break the pressure and the door may stop making noise - its prob the rubber sills

cheers

gr4z,

Not meaning anything nefarious by this but I don't think you quite got my meaning. I wasn't suggesting using drills on your door. Let me explain.

Back in the 60's there was a singing group named Archie Bell and The Drells. They had a hit record called "Tighten Up". So, since you had a speaker rattling, I figured if you played "Tighten Up" through it your rattle would go away. Just a bizarre thought process on my part. Of course, others on this forum probably have other adjectives to apply to my thought process.

Cheers,
SoYank

No problem the 60s is before my time (but only just) so haven't even heard of Archie Bell and The Drells.

Clean the cheap and nasty window rubbers and the top of the windows with a damp cloth and it will be much better. If the problem persists the dealer can apparently put some tape on them to mask it further.
