Problem after upgrade sound system! Becareful!!
hi all,
My car's audio system has been done by ![]() ![]() I wanted only put my Avic N2 ( in dash dvd and Gps) in, and I talked to Axis aduio before doing everything, and they told me :"my car will have no problem at all, the sound quanlity will remain the same." As you can see , I put sub and amp in later on, because they could not pass my stock amp and sub too. I feel everything they say is about the money, they are trying to make you pay more and more. Thus everyone is willing to upgrade their system, please becareful! |

You could have known that beforehand, had you bothered to read the posts in this forum.
It is a known fact that many audio signals in the E90 are produced by the stock head unit. The PDC is just on of them. The factory bluetooth is another and some of the cars warning chimes (low fuel, low temp, low Oil, low oil pressure etc.) may be affected as well. The issue can be solved though. You need to get your car reprogrammed to Euro spec standard audio spec (Business CD, no sound system). In that spec those sound (including the PDC) are produced by alternate means (the actual control units use integrated beepers to create the sounds themselves). They donīt sound as nice as with the Logic 7, but they work. Itīs going to be darn tough though, bordering on the impossible, to find a dealer in ths US willing and capable to reprogramm your car to that lowly euro spec. A word of warning to all: Many so called "audio pro shops" will happily hack away at your E90. Most of them donīt have the slightest idea how the electronics in the E90 works and the outcome is usually purely a matter of luck.

I am not sure if the system is out yet, but both JL audio and Rockford Fosgate came out with a module, about $400 bucks, that helps solve this problem. I'll try getting some more information about this soonl

The problem in this scenario is that the factory head-unit has been dumped and thus the source for some vehcile sounds such as the PDC is gone. The RF and JL products cannot restore that.

Iīm not sure wether that kind of reprogramming is possible. Iīm quite certain, itīs not suported by the factory. All I know is, you can spec an E90 with PDC and the Business radio. In that spec the PDC controll unit has to beep itself because the Business radio is not capable of creating those beeps. Thus for PDC to work without the Logic7, youīd need to get that Business Radio spec programmed into your car.

Does any anyone what is responsible for the sound? Is it PDC Control Unit or de Radio?
All others beeps (seat belt, low fuel, etc) come from the beeper installed in the instrument cluster. I cant' see why this should not be supported by BMW if we use OEM parts and install it in the dealer |

I have a question.
If you just add a Sub/Amp to your stock Logic 7 sound system's stock headunit, you shouldn't really have problems at all and still maintain steering wheel controls, right? (I heard you can hook up subs/amps to your stock E90 sound system) If I remember correctly, its when you change your headunit, you can't use the steering wheel controls.

You just can't yank out the stk hu anymore. That's why I got rid of all my equipment except my 1000/1 and W7. I ordered the L7 system knowing that is probabily the best sound (without major work or using a JL Cleansweep) I would get considering how all the functions and controls is integrated to the dash now.
Gutting the car's dash is just no longer feasible to me |

emmm hopefully its just the plate.
Nice subs. Im thinking of just putting a single 10w6v2 with 500/1 JL amp and call it a day. I had a 12w6v2 in my previous car that got stolen, that thing made me dizzy cause it bumps so hard.

I had an after market install on my 1990 325is and had all kinds of electrical problems. So I did my DD and read everything I could get my hands on about the E90 330's stereo system. I work in radio and think the factory system sounds awesome and very clean. Not to mention works flawlessly with phone integration. If you're even thinking about changing your factory stereo, I wouldn't do it. It's not worth the trouble you'll have down the line.
"Schadenfreude" funny word Tierfreund! Haven't heard that in a while. ![]() |

[offtopic] How do you like your E90? I just met another fellow E90er in PSU today. It was Artic 325i. Cool guy. We should have a meet when weather gets better. ![]() [/offtopic]
