MEVD17 emulation

The picture shows an ethanol fuel map being edited live on a bench ECU. There is a lot of free RAM on the MEVD17.2 as you can see, and some was already used. Less on MEVD17.2.G, but enough to be useful.

Do not judge the contents of the fuel map, it is just a random copy to test.

Useful in what way?

To tune the main tables whilst the engine is running without having to turn off, flash each change, turn on, test, repeat. Can change hours of work into minutes.

That would be incredibly useful. I'm sure MHD already know this and plan on utilizing it in some way.

Even cooler would be integration with a flex fuel sensor and the ability to swap tables on the fly depending on Ethanol levels.

I want this but with methanol injection. Some controllers have an external signal to tell the DME meth is flowing. At that point having the boost and timing targets change would be phenomenal.

There are ten pairs of new tables being blended with three different blending tables. The blending tables take input from another scaling table which takes input from any variable you like. This could be an ethanol content analyzer or another controller into a spare pin, a switch or a custom variable programmed through the CAN bus.

The ten pairs of tables cover fuel & timing (including spool modes), fuel correction/injector scaling, cold and after start enrichment, load/torque. The new tables are additional to the originals and you can switch between them.

Over the next week I'll be unit testing them on the bench.

If there are any queries or other ideas, please say!

Excited to see your results. On the fly tuning would be so convenient in so many ways.

No I was joking that they don't exist but I'd like to see it lol. I would like to see my car be tuned on a dyno in real time too but fat chance of anyone local ever picking up this knowledge.

Forgive me, not really spent much time tuning this platform, just coding for it. Can you explain what you want to do with idle speed? Do you want to adjust the idle speed relative to coolant, air intake or ambient air temperature blended by ethanol content? Do you have a specific table in mind that you have tried adjustments to or are you not self tuning?

I need to be very precise to change your request into reality. It could be a few lines of code if you know exactly what you want.

He has a single mass fly wheel. Raising the idle speed a little bit tends to help with the chatter that comes with the flywheel. Currently, there's no flash time option for idle speed with MHD as far as I know. I'm guessing that's why he mentioned it when you asked for other ideas

It was just a general request. Idle rpm does vary depending on a few factors like load. ISTA allows you to bump the idle speed up to 830rpms in all of these different states for testing. You can also use ISTA to make the changes permanent. Ideally, SMFW people would like to be able to bump it up a bit more (900-1000rpm) to quiet gear chatter at idle.

Cool. So you just want an idle speed table found but do not want to blend it by ethanol content?

Yes. Unless you think there would be a benefit to that... like a bit higher idle for higher ethanol contents or something.

There are quite a few idle speed tables that could be relevant. I suspect they will get tested once some other things are out the way, but it is more a calibration than emulation or flex fuel issue that I'm presently focused on.
