CUSTOM Clear Tail light lens (PICS) HOW TO?

A E92 owner from another forum custom made his tail lights with clear covers.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Does anyone think the lenses were replaced with clear lenses? Or do we think the red lenses were modified?

I looked at my E90 tail lights and they seem to have a red lens which covers the entire housing - can't tell whether or not the inner lenses are also red...

The lens were definitely replaced with clear lens, it is impossible to modify the red lens as the whole thing is made out of red plastic, no matter how much you sand it down or paint strip it

1. The singal part is chrome for reflection.
2. The lower part is just silver.
3. The Cover is completely red.

Thank you! I have my old pair of E90 tail lights laying around. I will be the test monkey for this project, maybe I will mess around a bit and try to get something similar. First step is just to find/craft a clear cover...

I have LCI tail lights

Do you have Pre Lci tail lights? If yes, you have two options.

1. You can buy this pair of tail lights, use the clear cover and customize the inside of the OEM tail lights.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smoke-LED-L...JToP54&vxp=mtr

2. Find clear covers. I am looking for companies that make clear cover too.

Well then, you're (we're) in luck. I actually have the exact tail lights you linked. They are on my car right now Fortunately, I saved the other set (OEM) as well. The problem is, if I go ahead and make modifications to both tail lights and neither work out well, I am in the hole a couple hundred dollars and left without any tail lights in the meantime. Regardless, I am 100% willing to tear them both apart.

AH.... i want those tail lights for LCI

no no you won't lose a penny at all.
If you dont like the OEM tail lights with clear cover after some internal modification, just simply put the clear cover back to the aftermarket one I am going to buy a set of LCI tail lights this Monday and play with it abit

I assume you've seen these then? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smoked-Red-...-/172355598233

Anyways, let me know what you find out when you modify them. Getting the lens off would require baking them, similar to the headlights, right?

Also, just a thought, without the red tint, there would be no red light emitted whatsoever from the light... meaning the brake light technically wouldn't function unless we found a red LED to retrofit.

I have, i don't the way it looks.
Yes, or use a heat gun, it's less harder than headlights.

Stock is just halogen yellowish/whiteish light, so yes you are correct, it will lose the purpose unless we switch the bulb to led or you can just use red halogen bulbs.

Each LCI tail light requires
1. Running light /brake light 2x P21W
2. Running light /brake light 1x H21W
3. Reverse light 1x T10 (Less Bright)/T15 (Brighter)

Yeah! I'll let you know tomorrow what kind they are. I just placed an order for two red 7528 LED's to see if I can put them in the running light place (the bulb that illuminates the 3 center strips). I want to see if this will make a difference in brightness and how even the strips appear. I will also update you on this later! If they turn out well, I will order more to replace the rest of the bulbs, and then will go through with the modification.

What voltage did you order? Maximum is 12W, or if you have coding stuff, you can shut off the sensor, that's what i did with led reverse light.
Damn never thought someone would be interested in modding tail lights

The product says voltage is 12 Volts, and wattage is 3 Watts. I think that should be fine haha. Other than that, I don't really mind a couple of codes if it throws any, I've been living with a bulb code for a while now because of the aftermarket tail lights. And I am very interested in modding tail lights, as long as it turns out cool

3W should not throw a code, i thought those aftermarket tail lights are error free

Which OEM tail lights do you have?

Just wondering what you can customize for Pre lci tail lights

I found a company that makes Clear tail lights cover. So i will let you know if they are willing to make BMW cover.
