Federal RSRR 30% Discount
I was chatting with a Federal Tires vendor and have a 30% off coupon. Code is "softlaunch" for any RSRRs.

If you get a chance to talk to the vendor again, ask about this problem. Both my rear's started coming apart. This was a problem with the -R series from old reviews. Fantastic grip, love the tires, but I can't have them coming apart on track. Had to go back to Hankook R-S4's. Too bad.

I've been running the FZ201 tires for a while now and they seem to be pretty similar to the NT01 with slightly less ultimate grip.

I'm torn between the RE71R and the RS4, have you run both? I love the RE71RS but they are so soft. I've heard the RS4 wears really well.

I have always been a Hankook user. Did the R-S3's for a couple years, then tried the Federals. First set was fine, wear fast, grip fantastic. This is the second set this year, and I'm not too happy about it. I knocked 2 seconds off my best on them at Road Atlanta, and at least that at other tracks. I ran the R-S4's for the first time this weekend at AMP. Great tires, but I liked the confidence level with the Federals at the limit. I really like the tactile sensation they give as the slip angle increases.

My RSRR's split too. There is no warranty on these tires either. The vendor that sold them to me couldn't help me and forwarded me to FEDERAL directly. They stated that they will not work directly with me as a customer so I was shit out of luck and cut my losses. This was after they requested various pictures and the dot info (they used me to document the incident but wouldn't reimburse me lol). I still used them for auto-x and they were fine. the rubber doesn't separate all the way through like it used to so after a while you'll wear past the separation. THESE ARE NOT A GOOD ROADCOURSE TIRE THOUGH. Last edited by bbnks2; 11-06-2017 at 01:00 PM.. |

Welp. That's that. Considering I would be using these at on of the fastest tracks in North America, I can't take a risk of a tire coming apart while cornering at 100mph...

Sadly, have to agree. But they were so much fun at Road Atlanta...

Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, colloquially known as Mosport GP. Here's an example of how high the speeds are in the turns (in KPH). And it does zero justice for the blind/elevation/camber changes all over the track.

I'm glad that I posted this, I was planning on running the FZ201s next season but this issue is obviously worse that I initially thought. It also seems to effect all of their tires, not just the RSR/RSRR. I'm passing along all of this information and pics to Federal as I've been in discussions with them for their driver program.

Yeah I've been scared of lapping there for years. Finally popped my Mosport GP cherry with a proper instructional trackday earlier this year. What an epic course, I'm not wasting time or resources elsewhere in the future. No other local track can compare!
I mean look at that video. Around 0:42, that turn is capable of holding that GT3 at almost 120MPH. That's nuts. All the turns are such high speed that if you cook it, you're writing your car off for sure. There's no walking away from making a mistake at Mosport and that's probably why many are apprehensive about driving the GP track. Our chief instructor who has been racing for 25 years mentioned that Mosport GP is the fastest track in North America. Sure seems that way! Anyways, looks like I'll be getting different tires for my track set... I was really hoping to trash a set of cheap Federals but the above photos aren't worth the risk

ive ran the re71rs and nexen nfera sur4 on my 135. both got me similar lap times at autoclub speedway roval (1:59) but i had different suspension setups so cant say if the tires got me the same times or not. the re71r only lasted me 3-4 track days (had to go easy on the 4th) the nexens seemed to wear much better. unfortunately blew my motor a week before the 2nd track day i would have had on the nexens.
On my DD Audi A3 i got the hankook rs4s and they are great. they seem to wear very well and grip really well. not on par with the re71r but forsure a competitor. another option are the new nexen nfera sur4G, they seem to be a bit better from the tirerack testing. i got the hankooks cause they seem to wear better and cause they were about $10 bucks cheaper a tire. moral of my post, look into the nexens and hankooks if you want something that last longer than the re71rs. |

The RS4 Seems to be the NT01 of the 200 treadwear market in terms of wear.

I ran the rsr-rr this year with no issues and really liked them. What date codes are people having problems with.
Also for people that ran them back to back with the rs4 what was the difference in lap times? |
