Assuming you're looking for summer performance tires, you can't go wrong with Michelin PSS. And to that point, if you were gonna get PSS, you should get the Pilot Sport 4 S, which is the next generation successor of the PSS

I tried a lot of tires and I always go back to Hankook EVO2's.
Even took them out on Sebring International Raceway. Sure, they're not a full race compound and not super grippy but they are very predictable with no surprises if you do overdrive them. Not once have I ever felt the car would "get away" from me in an uncontrolled manner. Very reliable in every aspect on the track, highway, and rain. I call em 'ole faithfuls. The 1/10th more dry grip you gain from PS4S' is not worth twice the price tag. If you goto the track a lot, get a spare set of track only tires and track brake pads. I don't think that you can get a set of PSS, unless they are a few laying a warehouse somewhere, they seem to have disappeared from most of the common sites in the common sizes. If you find them, be sure to check the date codes before you buy them.
I just replaced a staggered set of 19" PSS with the new PS4S and I have to say the new tires ride a lot smoother and quieter than the old ones ever did. They seem to handle as well, but are FAR less harsh on bad roads and generally make every road I drive on feel better than they really are. Small imperfections that I would feel with the PSS have disappeared with the PS4S. I was really taking a hard look at the Firestone Indy 500's but they recently had a price increase that made them even closer to the PS4S, so I decided to get what I wanted, instead of what was cheaper. |
