Decarbon Service Completed on CarFax

This sounds obvious but I just want to clarify: if it says "decarbon service completed" on the service record in CarFax is that the same as the CBU cleaning?

That is correct. Bear in mind there are a few different ways of performing CBU service which vary in thoroughness.

Hmm, yes I forgot about that. If it was performed at a BMW dealer can any assumption be made or would it depend on the dealer?

Dealers *should* use the TIS procedure and should all be the same.

Thanks! I understand. I'm looking at a vehicle with 50k mi and it had this service at 49k at a BMW dealership so I'm hoping that means it won't need it again for a while. Still getting other things checked of course but hoping that's a good sign.

Call or visit the delearship service dept. I had BMW dealership print me all service records. This applies even if not buying from BMW dealer.

As a follow up, I did call the dealer and they told me technically they can't "release" the records to anyone other than the registered owner but they could tell me a few things on the phone. The person I was speaking to didn't seem to know much about the details but basically confirmed what I already knew from the Carfax.

All in all, I ended up purchasing it after my mechanic looked it over and found everything in order with no complaints except rear tires needing replacement in the next few months. Thanks all for the information and tips! Loving the car so far.
