Hard Drive installation for i-drive
Hey,
A curious thought occurred to me the other day. Most cars these days (luxury) are jumping on the idea of installing hard drives to store music/pictures on. What are the chances of BMW doing the same thing, or maybe even, a custom mod? Just a curious idea I thought I'd put out there. -Shade |

pop the dvd rom out and see if it is sata or usb. i'm guessing the vxWorks o/s is very flexible (linux core). i'm just not brave enough to take apart my new baby.
if you take pics of the unit and its connections and chipset we can probably figure out more than vxworks/ARM. it seems like this nav unit is basically a carputer. The sad part of vxworks is it was designed to mostly be non-gpl so we can't demand source code peeps on engadget take apart their new mac's so why not the idrive system? would not suprise me to find a serial port (TTY for root console; jtag port; usb port(s)).
