What temperature to monitor in Carly for Thermostat?
What temperature should I monitor in carly to determine that the thermostat might be bad.
Is it motor temperature or oil temperature? Coolant temperature is always stuck at 8919.0 C If thermostat is bad then the car will run cool while at highway speeds? |

Motor Temp and Oil temp should read pretty close to thermostat temp as well. So if they're giving you a reading that isn't ridiculous, I'd go with it. Good old Carly, being shitty.

-if the car thought the temp is at 8919.0°C your car would probably have a SES and be in limp mode due to over temp and your cooling fans would be blasting on high speed. *Try a different app like torquepro or find someone with a scan tool just to verify. -for the most part if your thermostat is stuck open you car will overcool all the time. at highway speeds there is a lot of air moving through the radiator and over the motor, some people see lower temps at times. my experience with Carly was not very good for me at the time. I only bought the adapter and returned it due to odd behavior and I am glad I didn't purchase the app. I purchased Torquepro many years ago when for like $15 (lol) and a $7 elm327 BT adapter everything still running strong about 6 or 7 years later |

Carly (BMWhat) seemed Ok in the beginning and the monitoring was accurate. It was convenient to code a feature without breaking out the laptop. The premium was less than it is now. I rarely use Carly anymore. I emailed them 3 times about the parameter issue of 8,000+ degree temps in the last year with no response. Seemed to get shitty when they changed the name to the shitty name of Carly.

I was on the highway going 120km/h for about an hour and my temps went down to 40-42C, is that normal or does that mean thermostat is bad?
Outside temp was prob -2C |

I think you guys have your temps mixed up. The T-stat is set to open at 88 deg Celsius (~190F). The temp you are reading in the hidden menu is in deg Celsius and should read ~86-88 for a new T-stat. If your reading 42 from the hidden menu, your T-stat is stuck open and needs replacing.
There is a sticky at the top of the page that details T-stat issues. |

So this morning driving into work, -15c outside, and the temp in BC menu went down to 29! when i was on the highway going 100km/h+, during this time i noticed no more heat coming out of the vents, the climate control was set to 28.
Also, then when i got into inside streets and parked, temp went up to 50c but the REST mode would not go on when the car was turned off. So the car is not getting warm enough, what are the implications of running the car like this? Do i need to do it ASAP or can it wait till the weekend |

I've found that the "engine temperature F" (I think) parameter in Carly pretty closely lines up with what you see in the hidden menu coolant temp when you do the C to F conversion, so if you're looking to monitor engine temp with Carly that seems to be the one to use.

Drove home from Dallas area today. Cluster reading temp was 80-81C. Got my same 40-41 mpg going 70. At least at that coolant temp, no mileage decrease. Outside was about 44F.
