CCC to CIC replacement... what to look for.

So, I have been looking at various CIC units for replacing my CCC. The navigation has finally completely failed but I'm limping by using my cell phone to get traffic information.

I've picked up almost everything for the retrofit except the head unit. I've been trying to compare the options in my car with ones of various units that are available.

I have figured out a real quick way to figure out whether the CIC is from an "E" or "F" series car. CIC's from an "F" series have an extra connector on the lower right rear side of the unit. But I've been getting the VIN from whom ever has the units to validate what they come from.

I've found some comparable units but the one thing I am having a hard time finding is a unit that the car had rear PDC and Comfort Access. Is this an issue or will the unit understand the car has it and automatically start working or does it have to be programmed in.

What are you starting with? CCC or no navigation?

I don't have the part numbers on me at the moment but at a minimum you will need a CIC display, connector for display, communication cable from display to CIC head unit, CIC head unit, USB port and cable from USB to CIC head unit.

You will need to decide whether to update your controller to the type for a CIC along with the center console trim.

The big decision is whether you will try to script activate the system to your car or go for an emulator.

Oh we have idiots over here wanting $500 for a CCC.

You just have to know what you are looking for and watch and wait. There are deals out there, just takes a bit of time.

Just took a bit of time of watching and waiting.

The worst part is digging through the over priced and old stuff. It is truly amazing that sellers will put a price tag of $600 dollars when the listing right before theirs has the exact same thing for $200. Found several that are the same model that came from X1's for ~$150 but they were all Canadian. I figured they would be the same as a US version, but this one popped up and got it and a 6 month no-questions warranty for $95 total.

I got dashboard, speedometer, HVAC control, CIC, CID, central console with Idrive controler, Combox and almost all the cables (I had to buy Fakra GPS cable and Fakra USB cable ) for $500 from local dismentler.

I'm sorry but now I am getting skeptical that you and Greyfox held a gun to these guys head.

My dashboard cost me $325 alone for the retrofit. I will not begin to state what I paid for my HeadUnit which was the lowest I found at the time. i guess our cars are getting up there in age though so timing is a big factor.

I am gathering parts for a CCC to CIC upgrade myself, I have posted some questions on another thread and searched for a while but seems the ways to do this vary greatly and of course car options vary as well.

I see you mentioned you got answers on bimmer post to the questions you had, can you tell me what you found ? I am wondering the same as my car has PDC and comfort access, navigation, SiriusXM, Bluetooth for cell phone, voice commands, aux in under console but no USB option.

I found a donor car that's wrecked, a 2013 328i, not sure on it's options but I think it will work, but in looking at it not sure how it would fit my dash as right now my climate controls are on top, then below is the CCC unit/faceplate with controls and CD/DVD slots, then below that is a large blank. I also cant tell if the donor car is is NBT or CIC either as 2013 was a transition year from what I have read.

Thanks

From that picture, it is probably the CiC-High version and from what I understand, not compatible for a retro-fit. If in doubt, ask the seller for the VIN of the donor car and check what is in it with ... http://www.bimmer.work/

If they won't give you or don't have the VIN, walk away.

Here is a comparison of units and what they look like....

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1451463

The features available in your CiC come from your Vehicle Order (ie VO)... so if you had PDC before, when you code the CiC, you will have PDC. At least that is the gist I get of doing the coding.
