Broken clutch on my friends G35 Coupe

Sorry in advance if I am posting in the wrong place, but here goes.

My friend came into town with his 06 G35 coupe which he is selling to a friend. It is in great condition and only has 10,000 miles on it. My friend has been driving stick for a long time and never raced it or brought it to a drag strip on anything like that. He has never had any problems with the car.

On saturday morning he dropped it off to a local shop near where I live to have it detailed. We were both concerned about the "sketchyness" of the place so my friend wrote down the mileage on the odometer to make sure they didn't take it for a ride. Later that afternoon (no extra miles on the car) he was driving back to my house and about half a mile into the trip his car would not go. He was at a stop light, pushed the clutch, put it in first, let the clutch out, and nothing.

He brought it to the dealer and they dropped the transmission to take a look at everything and told him his clutch is destroyed and made him pay about $800 to have it replaced, it wasn't covered by any warranty.

My question is, could this have been some abuse by the detail shop reving up the engine and dropping the clutch a few times, but not going around the block (as there was no extra miles on the car), or somehow the end result of bad manual driving (which I don't believe, I have driven in his car with him, we have both had manual cars for many years... he doesn't ride the clutch over do anything that should destroy it). Also the car had no problems up until the moment it no longer worked.

As soon as he sends me the pics of the clutch I will link them on here for you guys to check out, but hit me up with your ideas...

A few clutch drops wouldn't kill it if it only had 10,000 miles on it. Stock clutches are not the toughest things, but they can withstand more than a few launches for sure. Some pics would definitely help.

I dont think he has a case to blame it on the bodyshop if he got it back with no extra miles on it. He has no proof that they even drove it. Next time he should detail the car himself, doesn't take too long, its free, and he wont have to trust his car in someone else's hands.

this whole thing looks crazy to me... it doesn't seem possible that anyone could break it in a day without putting miles on, nor did my friend abuse the car... is there anything mechanical that would go wrong that would cause this kind of damage without causing any symptoms prior to the event... the whole thing seems weird to me.

nah i doubt the shop has to do with it. even if they took it for a abuse spin it'll take more than that to break it.

WTF is on that thing? is that clutch hairy as fuck or is it my imagination? persian clutch or what? either coz something go in there somehow (like the fucking hair) or ur friend was slowly killing the clutch all along and it just happened to break that day. he should have fought that 800 bucks. infiniti should have replaced it, it's pre-mature damage and the guy knows how to drive, according to you

Wow that sounds super strange. I don't think the shop did anything to it..if they were to replaced the clutch with a bad one, they would probably need more time and there would be signs..like maybe grease marks around the areas where bolts needed to be taken out.

$800 is a pretty reasonable price for the stealership though!
