Hi all,
For those of you with DCTs theres a facebook page - just search BMW Dual Clutch Transmission Tech. We're on the cusp of some exciting developments and ill report back here for those that dont want to join

-m3 GTS flashing has occurred and one guy has installed the M3 shifter
-one European shop has dismantled a TCU and is in the process of reverse engineering the hardware. They have enabled OBD flashing.
-Work has commenced on reverse engineering the BINs
-Also an Italian manufacturer makes a device that can read, modify and write to the DCT TCUs
It's a magpro2 TCU manager and costs around $5k US

Stay tuned for more! For those on facebook I'm Ozzy Carguy lol I couldn't join the Aussie BMW facebook page. Apparently you need a real name.

Sounds like some great development for sure, excellent. About time too the cars are almost 10 years old and no one can OBD flash to change shift points and raise clamping pressures - crazy.

Yeah, because it's a buy & sell page as well we can't have folks who joined Facebook 3 days ago with obviously fake profiles trading. It's to protect everyone else that does have real profiles and as such have some accountability. Fake Facebook profiles are just sketchy, like the user needs to hide something. Up to you really, happy to have you as yourself

Sounds exciting, does any of this apply the average Joe Shmoe like me that is running bolt ons and will never do anything too big like turbo or clutch upgrades?

I liked MHD S2+ for the power and smoothness of shifts, if somebody these would be a simple flash and now it shifts better or harder something it would be cool

M3 GTS shifting is as hard and fast as it gets

Ha! Awesome thanks Tom. I've still got your mobile number from when we spoke ages ago..does that still work ?

Just for reference I was looking at getting the shifter from OS it was going to be about 350 bucks. Got it locally from Brin tech for almost a third of that and I'll have it in two to three days. I hope you guys end up as vendors here. I'm sick of paying BMW tax.

Good stuff mate definitely a score, although I have nfi what your planning to do with it.

From memory your n55 right? I've tinkered with a gws retrofit but really didn't spend enough time on it. It runs a lin serial bus as well and I'm thinking you will need the drive logic button for the correct switching of the parking lock, im pretty sure it different. You could also switch it other ways as well of course. If your successful and want the dct m3 knob and center console lci let me know as I've only one left, kinda hard to get.

Always cool to see people pushing things.

N54, were flashing m3 software onto the DCT and it works, a bit of coding and the drivelogic works. Might need a diff as well at some point......

Thumbs up

Wow. I am certainly not located in AUS but this thread has me VERY intrigued.

I've seen a video of the m3 DCT shifter being installed in a 335is. The dash represented the gears like the m3 does, shift speed was selectable, etc. It was described as 'install the shifter and code it, flash m3 DCT and go!'. (it was from a thread "DIY Trans swap AT > DCT AT > Metch" on a different forum that I doubt I can link to)

Tons of error codes on dash, but it gives promise.

Regardless, the DCT firmware of my 335is is pretty terrible and is sluggish from <10MPH start, sometimes gets confused how to shift, etc etc etc. Common issues.

I haven't heard of any news/information in the US market for DCT improvements (very rare in the US to have DCT and N54/N55 other than the 335is/135is or newer 135i).

I have removed my Facebook account for many reasons and won't be reactivating it...

How likely is this development being brought overseas? What kind of hardware is required to install?

You dont need the diff, Just flash the M3 software and add the shifter unit. If its not for you thats fine.

I removed my Facebook as well. Too many negatives.

Ive just bought the shifter and im doing a trial run tonight so ill let you know. The one guy that did it in the states isnt too forthcoming with information about what coding he had to do so im going to document it and share rather than horde it. This needs to be public so people can smash some records.

So where did the thing about requiring the diff come from? I thought we needed to have same final drive or somthing and that it would work with the diff? Im pretty fucken keen for gts software and shift severity adjustment.

It comes from the impression people who have tried this have given me/us. Theyre saying that after they've changed the shifter when they gear down it revs higher than what it should when it blips the throttle. It could be that its because we have a heavier flywheel or that the M3 revs come down faster or whatever however we also think that the TCU is programmed with a diff ratio since people who have tried different diff ratios in the past have gotten errors. The guy thats put the shifter in and flashed says that he has no errors relating to wheel speed so...... It's a mystery.

I bought a shifter for 100 bucks(i stole it as hotsd says) but he has others and at that sort of price its worth a crack because everything else is coding ie free if you have a laptop and that way inclined.

Probably due to the different final drive ratio.
It would be difficult to mechanically fix that. Maybe when you guys crack the programming you could reprogram the blipping. It would be a real downer if the downshifting wasn't perfect because that's half the fun of DCT
