I want my 335 to be louder, but not drone a bit.

Is there any realistic solution for this? I don't want rasp, and I don't want any drone. Right now, I've got an e90, with the full stock catback. I have catless downpipes. I'm wary of taking the second cats out, because I want the car to be roadworthy, and I want the secondaries to be there when they look under the car. I'm also pretty sure that the second cat delete makes a ton of rasp. I'm not sure whether to take the resonator out. I don't think I can delete the mufflers without creating drone- my e46 330i has a muffler delete and it created a lot of drone. Is there any perfect setup?

Start by deleting the front resonator & installing an X pipe.

That's how the e92's are set up.

Does this make a significant difference in volume?

Have you ever stood outside of your car while someone else drove off? Its really remarkable how much of the exhaust noise is dampened by the cab. I've Had my wife drop me off at times and im always surprised by how loud it is as an outside observer.
Catless DP's full exhaust.

Significant ? Noise will increase 25% maybe at best.

Do the Golf tee mod first before an X pipe. If you like that, then buy the X pipe. The X pipe mod will cost you $130.00 total.

If you have welding abilities yes. If not, you can buy them for $500.00.

If I'm spending $500.00 for used mufflers, I'd spend $250.00 more for the real thing and get P.E. exhaust mufflers or just get 335IS mufflers for $500.00 a do the Golf Tee mod on them.

Doesn't pre lci e90 have resonators while the LCI has a stock x-pipe?

And I thought golf tee mod didn't work anymore? I know on my 09 after a min after cold start the flap opens and stays open.

I don't think so... my LCI E90 has the resonator.

I have heard that these exhausts can be inconsistent between years. Guess the only way to find out is to look

I saw two people were asking about this so ill share. My e90 had the center resonator i chopped it out and put two straight'ish pipes to the stock muffler with catless dp, sounds a like a diesel but im happy i've heard worse 335's.

As far as I know, any e90 sedan with the n54 or N55 has a resonator.

Golf tee mod. Not working? You could also unplug the flap control module, which is found in the driver's side rear trap door for the tail-lights. This way the flap will be open 24/7.

as others said disconnect the exhaust can flap harness first since its free99. if you want louder just do exhaust cut out mod.

you can push a button to open the cut out or close it when you want it quiet

My bone stock e92 is fairly loud with just a whiff of drone. My e90 was quite a bit quieter. The resonators typically get rid of annoying rasp or drone, while the muffler generally quiets things. For a daily driver, I like stock cats and resonators, perhaps with a performance muffler. That gives a nice refined Euro sound with minimal drone. I prefer my cars quieter than most though. A friend of mine has fully de-resonated e46 with just a Remus muffler that sounds awesome. It's all a matter of personal preference. My neighbor has a straight pipe x5 that is 100% drone, I don't know how he stands it.

E90 with n55 all have an x-pipe instead of a resonator.

Hmm. With only one turbo vs two I could see that.

Update : I ordered the vibrant 1792 resonators. They are 2.5" in diameter. The original exhaust is something like 2.36". I don't remember exactly, but it is bigger than 2 1/4" but smaller than 2 1/2".

I know this because I had to buy exhaust clamps for the 335is mufflers I put in. I cut off the OEM mufflers and installed 335is mufflers with exhaust clamps. When I ordered the exhaust clamps they came in 60mm, which is 2.36mm.

The 2 1/2" 1792 Vibrant Resonators will slide over the OEM pipes. The installer, at the muffler shop, will just fill the small gap with slag to in a sense weld the resonator to the OEM pipe.

I'll have them Saturday 2/17. After that, I'll have to make an appt. with the muffler shop and get them installed. I might be able to do this Saturday, but somehow I doubt it. Typically, you have to get an estimate from them and then make an appt. So, we'll see. I will post a cold and warm startup video.

Check out the Corsa setup. Looks good, sounds great, much lighter than stock, reasonable price. No drone, no rasp.

I've got the flap connector disconnected, inside the trunk. That was easy and greatly improved the sound. Maybe i will have a friend drive with me outside it- I love the sound when I'm backed in a spat against a wall, or in a tunnel and such.
I couldn't believe how loud my 330i with a muffler delete was, the first time my friend drove it. I've considered a cutout, but then the question it- where do I put the cutout to sound great? Probably just after the secondary cats, but then I'd need 2 cutouts working in sync, since the e90's got 2 pipes all the way back, An X pipe might be the move.

Yep. I'd agree. Your next step is an X pipe. The red tail X pipe is a great choice. If after that you need more sound, your next step after installing the X-pipe would be 335is or PE exhaust mufflers. IS mufflers brand new can be had for around $800.00 or so; used about $500.00. PE exhaust mufflers $1200 brand new but that comes with a full exhaust. Used PE mufflers around $750 or so.
