My Exp with 2011 328 E92 Purchased Used
Hello,
I believe we learn more from our mistakes with that in mind Ill like to share my Exp. 1. Purchased a 328I 2011 BMW E92 with 60K miles.I purchased for about 10k The car has the sports package. 2. Most important thing to do.First thing i did was take it 2 mechs certified for a look over. Items found. Needed new Valve cover seal. <- deal fixed Where the Eng Oil filter seemed to have slight leak <- Dealer Fixed New Breakes <- Dealer Fixed Aliment <- $110 Rims replaced<- Me since they had ton of road rash. Yes i could of had them repaired but for 300 bucks more i got new 19" rims. Under body plastics I purchased but dealer put it on for me. $400 Misfire 2 plugs changed<-dealer Headlight problems Adaptive head light problem. Both Modules bad. I purchased 2 from ebay was going to the job myself; but dealer fixed since i said it was a safety issue. Light was aiming very low. ( Yes i know u can adjust ). Dealer made sure no leaks. I have 2 modules on stand by. I be friended the 2 managers\Mech there gave them a bottle of some Whisky. LOL nothing fancy but they always treated me well and I believe you scratch my back ill scratch yours. Post Purchase 10 K Driving I heard a loud noise high pitched. Everything was fine. Issue Compressor went bad. 4 K later Radiator fan was stuck on high. No over heating. Indy tells me thermostat needs to be replaced. But i should change water pump as well. Ill like to share my Exp is all with you and things i have learned. So about out of pocked for two repairs not including plastics I am about 1600 in repair. If i could do it over again i think i would of spent the extra cash and purchased something with less miles but who know if i would of ran into similar issues. I love how the car rides has power (no its not 300 but enough for my wife not to be scared) when i need it corners like no other car i had before. My wife loves the car as well. |

Thanks for the sharing. Think about it this way, with the money that you’ve put in, the car should give you many miles of trouble-free service in the days to come. Enjoy!

This is precisely why you pay a couple hundred dollars on a PPI or learn what to look for on a used BMW. Those items would have been found and used to negotiate a better deal.

I did take it for PPI. Unfortunately the water pumps was not an issue. The dealer fixed everything with the PPI report. Or the Compressor during ppi was fine too

#1 should be PrePurchase Inspection. Take information and use it to negotiate the best deal. #2 would be to purchase vehicle.

$1600 sounds like a lot in a short time, but I have seen MUCH worse on a used vehicle (not even luxury or German) that checked out after a PPI.
Used cars will always be prone to issues/repairs because they are used. Nothing wrong with that, just something you have to be prepared for. To me I think it is most important to enjoy the car. Repairing a vehicle you enjoy is not as painful compared to an appliance you already hate and see as just an expense. My friend has a car she hates, but it is constantly having issues. It's ironically a Honda that was recommended to her because it was "more reliable" than the A4 she wanted. My Jeep Cherokee I bought 8 years ago with 80k miles now has 200k. A month after I bought it (after a dealer said it passed inspection with flying colors) it overheated and needed a new radiator. A few other small things followed a month later. After that it has been pretty trouble free and turn key for the following 120k miles.
