I have a 335xi and i replaced my front left axle twice. First time was an aftermarket re-manufactured axle. Didn't last long. 2nd time was a used OEM one from ebay that had like 60k miles on it. Still riding good now !! I only spent 40 dollars for the used one!

I've had the same problem with two xis now and the simple answer is to buy OEM. The tripod joint is the weak spot in this and if your car is at anything other than stock height, the axle will fail faster. I have also used a used OEM and got more out of it than with a new AM part. Last thing you want is a catastrophic failure of the axle while you are driving.

Replaced my front left xdrive axle once and my front right xdrive axle twice. Aw tried aftermarket and the axle/tripod while not being the quality of OEM, isn't really the problem, it's the boot itself. You have 2 suitable/affordable options; 1. Buy aftermarket axle and swap out inner boot with OEM one and install 2. Buy a used axle from eBay or I use weberbrothersauto.com all the time. They are great, have several used e90's and warranty their used parts. Option 2 is really the better of the 2. |
