Why are people paying near retail price for after market wheels?

Because they have the funds to do so? Not sure what kind of question this is lol

I recently paid $1300 CAD for a set of 19'' Vossen CVT's shipped from USA when they were regular $2200USD for the set. A lot of places will have mark ups to make profit when they are a dealer.

Regardless of your opinion, this is a legitimate question. And the threads purpose is to proceed me with greater knowledge. From what i can see the only utterly pointless peace of information here is your comment.

I'm new to buying car parts, etc, and i thought i was missing a piece to the grand puzzle because i commonly see people paying tuns for basic aftermarket wheels. Excuse me for not assuming people are ridiculous for paying over retail for wheels they can purchase online for less.

The price you see private sellers listing things at is not necessarily what they're selling them for at the end of the day. When you're selling used stuff privately it's wise to build in some room for negotiation, because everyone wants to feel like they made a good deal.

Some wheels are also rare or the model/brand is no longer produced via the manufacturer or has a limited amount and hence can raise the price significantly.

Some people believe that if the rims are in mint condition it saves them a lot of hassle of ordering internationally (even from the US) and having them shipped here to Canada or even ordering them and waiting x months for the wheels to be made and then shipped. So with all that in mind maybe its worth it to buy a mint set of rims for similar price to MSRP if you were to order it and get them shipped etc.

This is what I was wondering the most, it really looks like there are some sick prices online, but they are all American companies.

Maybe that import fee is just super high. Okay, we can consider this closed.
