2010 328i Software update & Bluetooth Question
I'm new here and I just bought a 2010 328I xDrive.
I have a couple questions about this care because I really only know how to drive it and how to turn on the radio lol. Regarding a software update would I have to go to the dealer to have it done or can I update it myself without the "Software Update" option in my Settings? Also, when I plug my iPhone SE into the USB port to play my music is says "Not Supported". Is there anyway to fix that? Thank you! -Ed Last edited by ed_2010.328i; 03-18-2018 at 12:57 PM.. If you have a 2018 you are in the wrong forum this is
for e90's you have and F30 or beyond. Read the manuals if you have an idrive that is like the ones in the e90 the usb in glove box is only for downloading music into the hardrive in the idrive the one in the center console plays music. There is and idrive subforum here. BMW doesn't do over the air updates as far as I know. The ipod or phone support requires a BMW cable that plugs into both the phone and the aux to work on a e90. I would think a2dp would be a standard feature by now. You need to read the manuals there is usually a separate manual for audio and idrive. |

It's a 2010 actually, I typed in the wrong year, but I just fixed it. I read up on using a USB, but the website does not have the update for my Vin. I just want to play music through my car, but the USB in the center console does not support my phone.

Well the next question is what is your phone.
If you want wireless bluetooth phone and have idrive and a combox you will need both coding and and probably some hardware to enable it. The idrive sub forum will have more concentrated info on this. It will cost you a lot to get a upgrade from BMW and they may tell you its not even possible . Better to find a coder or go to someplace like Bimmertech or Bimmeretrofits. First step is to find what you actually have by doing a Vin check with a free BMW online VIN checker and listing all the options in the 6xx area where the audio and usb, a2dp features are listed. http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=122 |

You don't get it everything(every little thing) is and option you need to list the optons and to get the options you need to do a vin check.
https://www.bmwvin.com/ nobody has been complaining here about specific phones not working and SE does not describe which generation it is for most people . The software update option you see I believe is only for Maps. |

The point is not to search for updates its to see what you have.
If you have usb option 6fl you should be able to play music through a usb stick that is formated with fat 32 from the center usb connector under the arm rest. . To play and ipod you will need the BMW cable I that hooks into both the USB and aux in the center console. I believe the streaming option for music is 6nf https://www.google.com/search?q=2010...nt=firefox-b-1 https://www.google.com/search?q=2010...nt=firefox-b-1 Last edited by ctuna; 03-18-2018 at 05:29 PM.. |

You need a special cable to connect an iPhone or iPod to usb. I assume you have the USB and Aux port in the center console? If so, you can order the adaptor on Amazon or do as many others have and get the Tune2Air which gives you Bluetooth audio without having to retrofit newer equipment or be tether by a cable.
Some 2011s had Bluetooth audio because the Combox began with late 2011 production if I’m not mistaken. There are many thread about Bluetooth audio.
