Anyone doing iRacing?

I found one really old thread (started 2010) so thought I'd start a new one.

I'm getting ready to build another sim rig so I can get back into iRacing. Just curious if anyone else here is into it as well.

I'm on iracing. Been a subscriber for about 5 years now. I've had to take out a second mortgage to be able to afford it but I guess it's worth it

I don't get to race as much as I would like but I'm on a few times a week.

Here's a quick vid of my setup:

Very nice, is that the Obutto setup? (derp was ignoring the back of the seat) I'm trying to get back in cheap so I can just start going again, but $1300 on just the seat/mounts/triple monitor mount puts a damper on that! Money I don't spend on that I can go back to having Fanatec stuff like I had before instead of doing peasant Logitech stuff or something.

I may just go Playseat, set new monitors on a folding table and slap a new video card in the old computer just so I can get going again.

I haven't played since late 2015/early 2016 when they changed the tire model again and the MX-5 Cup cars became basically undriveable (for me) anyway.

Thanks! If the wife knew how much I have spent on my rig I think she would no longer be my wife

The tire model has been updated a couple times since 2015 and I think it is much better now.

My monitors are 24" BenQ's and I really like them but I would recommend at least 27" monitors personally. If i ever hit the lottery I will upgrade my 24" ones.

Really nice setup. I have an obutto as well. But I play mostly Project Cars 2.

Thanks. It's been a labor of love to get my rig to this stage. I haven't tried Project Cars 2 but it does look pretty cool. I play iracing, Automobilista, RaceRoom, and Dirt Rally. They keep me pretty busy

Yeah, I had 27s on my previous setup. Was also looking at the R1 stand that would let me do 3 32" but again, I need to just get back into it.

This is partly why I wanted to just build a monster rig. Even though it's not needed for iRacing, I'd like to occasionally play the "prettier" games for funsies.

But if I go that route, we're talking $5k anyway.

If you can use VR and be comfortable with it, you won't go back to monitors.

My times are usually better with VR also. I just moved to a new place and the only place to setup my rig is in my guest bedroom so I will be using the TV to start up the pc and game and from there I will just play in VR. When guests come the rig won't be in the way

NowI have a a 4dof motion rig with 4x simvibe, DD wheel, and tilton simcraft pedals. 3x 27 1ms 144hz monitors and a 4th 29" lg up top.

I’ve been on iRacing for 1-1/2 years now. An instructor at a track day told me about it. I wasn't a gamer, but it’s my favorite hobby now and I’m usually on there a good amount, especially in the winter. I’ve been running the 1989 Nissan ZX-T IMSA GTP car in the Kamel GT series most of the time I've been a member and do very well in that series. I also do most of the endurance events with a team.

My rig is an Obutto running a OSW direct drive with custom Sam Maxwell wheel, HE Ultimate pedals, Oculus Rift, and Fanatec shifter. There is too much flex in the Obutto. I haven't upgraded it yet because I'm debating on weather to go to a motion platform. If not, I'm going to just buy a Sim-Lab or build an 8020 rig.

I mostly use iRacing because the competition and community with real people is by far the best available, physics are the best, and racing feels the most realistic. I'll occasionally play Project Cars 2, Assetto Corsa, Raceroom and RFactor 2 just to play around in other cars I like. All in VR though, it's just so much better. Flight sims like X Plane 11 and DCS are pretty awesome in VR as well.

Dang it! I keep reading this, and since I have plenty of real track experience on 2 wheels and 4 wheels, I suspect it would be better.

I'm afraid to take the plunge and not like it. That's my only real issue. It would definitely save some money over 3 quality monitors, something the R1 triple monitor mount, etc.

Cost of entry is at its lowest now with the Oculus Rift being $400 and routinely on sale a little cheaper.

The resolution is lower than ideal and you can see pixels if you really focus in on it. the next gen will be better but of course more expensive when they first release also.

I recently started getting into it. Here's my setup. I'm in the process of getting full motion (DOF Reality P3), should have it in the next week or two. Screen is a 49" curved Sammy, but the star of the show is made via Oculus Rift. I'm not yet on iRacing, but have been messing with Assetto Corsa, and more recently just started with Project Cars 2.

I'm on it, daily, but haven't been competing much because I have commitment issues, lol. I've made some changes to the rig since those pics, but at least you get the idea. New V2.5 wheel, pro Pedals, more Buttkickers, etc

Feel free to add me, I'd love to lap with some fellow BMW owners: Dylan Slonetsky

Here's an old hotlap in the 991 Cup car, at the 'ring. Have since shave a couple of seconds off of that time, but reeled buddy in by the end

Is that RaceRoom? Been meaning to check it out, I'm hearing great things about it. If not, what sim is that?

Those of you have used the Oculus Rift, any of you wear glasses?

I need to get to the eye doctor and renew my prescription and get some more contacts anyway, just curious.

I have used by buddies Rift and I have a -2.5 prescription. First time I was able to get it focused perfectly, second time seemed a challenge. Depending on the strength of your script you should be ok.

My eyes are BAD. Like -7 and -7.5 without glasses/contacts I'm basically unable to function outside of like getting some water out of the fridge or taking a shower.

I don't do iRacing... used too... but I just have trouble finding the time to practice, qualify, race, etc. uninterrupted. I do PCars, PCars2 and Dirt Rally... Usually against the AI so I can "pause" when the wife/kids need me for something. Might get back into iRacing at some point in the future.

My son and I built a gaming rig for Christmas with the Oculus VR. (I'll post pics soon... we have a little work to do on the gaming station/studio.)

Anyways... I need a +2.25 script and have been just using cheaters. I have a little trouble getting the headset in focus. It's usually just a matter of getting it in the right spot on my head. For strong scripts, you'll probably need to wear glasses or contacts when playing. Most glasses don't fit too well under the headset. The "sports" glasses do, decently. Like... the Nike ones or whatever...

The focal length of the built-in lenses in the headset is supposed to be 2 meters, I think. If your vision is clear at that distance, you should be OK but... from what you're saying, I doubt that's the case. There is a company that will make replacement prescription lenses to go into the headset. I can't recall the name. That, however, would preclude others from using your headset.

Yeah, I'm functionally blind without correction. With Chrome set at 100% zoom (normal) on a 24" monitor here at work, I have to be about 8" to read any text on the screen. And I'm sure my script will go up since I haven't had them checked in 3 years or so.

I think for now I'm going to stick with monitors just in case.
