Suspension??
I have no idea what to do about the suspension. I hate the way the front end looks. I am leasing the car so I don't want to do coil overs. Will springs work? If so, which ones? How long will they last? Sorry for all the questions. Everytime I search, I find different ansers. I just want the car to look like the 335i not a 4x4!

Personally, I think springs is a bad idea because the shocks are not made for that spring rate. You'll feel that your car is wobbly at high speed and might bottom out going over bumps. If you think the KWV3 has too many features that are not useful to you, at least get the H&R xi specific coilovers. Yes, you'll have to pay for the labor to put it in and take it out, but the ride quality over just springs with stock shocks would be well worth it.

Not really what I wanted to hear! Thanks Kev. It seems like that is what most people prefer though. All I want is to lower the car an inch or so. Damn! ~$1200 plus labor for 1"?? Doesn't seem worth it.

I think you'll be ok with just the springs and if the stock shocks go you could always upgrade to some Koni's. Coilovers are great as well and you'll get back some cash when you sell em, we have the KW-V3's as well as the H&R's and will be carrying FK soon as well though i'm not 100% sure they offer a Xi specific unit!! If I can help you in anyway let me know...

You'd still be paying comparable labor for the springs. You might save a little bit on the spring, but if you drive your car in any spirited way, I think there's a high chance that you'll regret your decision. Also, the coilovers give you the flexibility of rising the car during winter.

yeah i have an XI and i'm also looking to get some H&R sport springs and from what i have heard and seen they seem to work fine with the XI stock shocks plus i feel the XI's tent to stand higher than the regular suspension on I models.

335xi Suspension
Gentlemen,
I'm a new owner of an 08 335xi - previously A43.2 The ride height is terrible. Sooo loose in the front with "spirited" driving. Is there anything I can do to improve 1. The ride height and 2. The handling? Very impressed with the vechicle in general. Dissapointed that BMW can't provide a lower ride height on the xdrive model. yes, yes...the 335i is lower, but I'm addicted to outstanding traction in the winter. Much appreciated. |

I've got the KW var 3's on order. Back order to be precise
Cal. Agent and crew, help me with the settings. I want the 4x4 look delete option, but I don't want to be slammin' into curbs or help the City with snow clearing in the winter. The suspension needs to be drilled down more for my liking, but I still want my sleath sleeper ride to be reasonably comfy when cruising. Can I corner on a rail, without shaking my fillings out? Am I right that the compression and rebound settings are adjustable for low speed driving only? Am I right in thinking that if I adjusted the drop to a notch below the highest setting, I would end up with a drop just below the stock 335i. And if I dialed the suspension to a couple notches below softest, I would still end up with a sportier more precise suspension than the 335i with sport suspension? In other words, here is where I want to be: 335i stock -> 335xi -> 335i sport -> perfect <- Lotus Elise |

As far as ride height, I'm not sure what kind of drop you'd have IF you were to set the V3's to highest setting. My suggestion would be to get a tape measure and physically measure the ride height of a non Xi WITH sport suspension. Distance is measured from centre of wheel to bottom edge of fender(s). You're likely somewhere around 370-375mm in the rear *currently*. Better yet, when you're at Calgary BMW later this week, they have a Dinan prepared 335 in showroom with the S2 suspension .... take your tape measure and make notes. As far as damping and bump settings, I'd recommend the middle settings for both *which is the recommended setting from KW*
