Arrow Buly's 335xi Build

Hey guys, so after 4 years of owning my 335xi I've finally started my build . I have been doing little things here and there, but nothing too crazy yet. I got myself an E70 X5 35d for a daily so now the e90 can be officially retired and be my weekend toy.

4/3/18

I'm starting out by wrapping the whole car, with 156k miles the exterior is beat and really needs a re-spray. But that would cost me upwards of $5000 so for now wrap is what I'm going with.

So this past weekend I test fit my new Replica M front bumper before starting to strip down the car. I have to say it looks a lot better than the stock 3 series bumper. The only thing I am trying to decide on is whether or not to cut holes for the headlight washers or to delete them all together...

The last 2 days I have been working on taking off all the exterior trim/lights/etc to get ready for wrapping.

The wrap is getting delivered tomorrow, so I'm trying to get all the prep finishes before then. All thats left to remove now is the side skirts, antenna, hood emblem, and the door handles (I'll do these as I do each door). I also have a dent guy looking over the car to remove any small dings.

I had painted the window trim black a while ago but since it was faded I am repainting that as well. I couldn't stand the chrome trim

I'll be updating this post every day or so as I make progress.

...to be continued, subscribe for updates!

Sounds like a cool project. You should put clear over the trim paint, they make matte clear coat as well, it will make it last longer.

I hadn't thought of that, although it seems like it would be difficult to do...

Sounds like a great and fun project considering it isn't a daily driver. I wish I had a bigger garage so i could buy a midsize SUV and dedicate my E93 as a toy/project car.

Since you are wrapping your car, I would recommend wrapping your trim. I have painted trim on 3 different cars in the past few years with no problems but have had the hardest time getting it to stay on my E93. Eventually I wrapped it and haven't had any problems since.

Update: 4/5/18

So I did a little more prep and wrapped the hood last night. It was a lot easier than I had thought it would be, and the vinyl was very forgiving.

Today I started wrapping the rear quarter panel which was annoying because I wanted to make the entire section 1 piece. I used the left over material that I cut out to start the trunk. I will have to get photos later of the door jamb but I used 3M knifeless tape to get a clean edge.

I am hoping my dent guy can come tomorrow so that I can start the doors. Otherwise I'm planning to finish the trunk and maybe start the roof.

Let me know what you guys think of the color, I wanted to do something different

I thought you were talking about a clear vinyl after painting it, I'm using a matte black to match the rest of the rubber/trim on the car.

I get that. They make matte clear coat. Paint alone doesn’t last as long exposed to the elements.

Liking the color so far!

I like the colour, it's different!

And you should do something with the headlights, maybe blackout the housing and get a new lens

I need to get new headlights since my driver side adaptive feature doesnt work. Was looking at LCI headlights if I’m gonna replace them

Ooooh...CSL trunk lids are nice! Bummer it was cheap, let us know if you get a reputable and good quality version. I may be doing this in the future.

By the way, what size wheels are you running? And do you have spacers? Your wheels seem much more flush to the outside of the wheel wells/fenders than mine (also pre-lci E90)

2 questions,

1) why the heck did it take you 4 years to "start your build"?

2) Why did you pick an obnoxiously loud Yellow?? The only car that should be that color is a pre facelift Muricelago. Even an Aventador in that color looks tacky.

Front: 18x8.5 with 235’s
Rear: 18x9.5 with 265’s

All wheels have 15MM burger spacers

I bought the car when I was 18 and in school, I was modding it but it was my daily so I couldn’t do that much. I love the yellow, saw it on a car years ago and always wanted to do it to mine.

My previous car was yellow, I keep wondering about wrapping the e92 yellow or at least some highlights... it's a bold look and you're going to be cop bait , but it's unique and fun.

Update: 4/15/18

I've been busy lately and haven't been able to spend much time on the E90, but here are some update photos. I am going to do the bumper last, and like I said before I'm really not looking forward to that part. My goal is to finish by next weekend

Update: 4/19/28

I finished the right quarter panel the trunk this week. I had to do the trunk in 3 pieces because of all the different transitions. Tonight I started the rear bumper. I tried to do it in one piece and it was VERY hard so I ended up using the 3M knifeless tape to make a seam. I'm obviously not gonna finish by this weekend Here are some update photos!
