They work perfectly with the stock exhaust, and "bolt-up" to it the same as they would to the aFe Exhaust or BMW Performance Exhaust, maybe others as well. To install them you would need to make the normal cuts on the stock exhaust pipes that you need to make when installing any exhaust pieces (except for headers) on our cars.
The stock exhaust is one piece (all welded together) from the end of the headers, all the way back. Therefore you would need to cut your stock exhaust in two places (one "place" .. but one cut for each pipe so two cuts total) to install these. Basically, you make the two cuts, one for each pipe, then unbolt the stock cat pipes [that you just separated (by cutting) from the rest of the exhaust system] from the headers. Then the stock cat pipes will pull out and you put these race pipes in their place. Use the race pipes to measure where to make your cuts at the end of your cat pipes. Or have a shop do it. If you have a stock exhaust system then you'd need to get two 55mm exhaust clamps, such as these, to "bolt up" the race pipes to where you just made the cuts. If you already have an aftermarket exhaust system, such as the BMW PE, you'd already have clamps right where these race pipes go. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to ask any others! I am 99% sure that people here have gotten them to work with Xdrive, but they had to make some minor modifications. I know it wasn't anything major, but I can't recall exactly what had to be done to the pipes. As far as E91 goes, that shouldn't be a problem at all - you'll just line up the new pipes under your stock ones and make a mark where you need to cut. Long story short, if you want to make them work, they will, and it shouldn't take too much effort. I'll try to find the thread where I believe there was an E91/xdrive guy posting about them.
EDIT: The thread I had in mind didn't have much info but there was one guy that installed them on his E92 xdrive. He said he had to hammer some on one of the pipes in order for it to fit around an xdrive component. That said, he still felt that the mod was totally worth it.
