N54 Rough Running
Hello all!
I hope people are good at problem solving. The other day I was driving my car and the engine light came on. I used my Torque app and it is showing misfiring on 1, 2 and 3 and a bank 1 lean error. That lead me to replace the O2 sensor but it's made zero difference. The car won't drive over 10mph and if I try it comes up with a DSC failure warning. I've tested the injectors with a trusty screwdriver and 1, 2 and 3 are not making any ticking noise. Seems like it could be the issue but why would 3 fail at the same time? Anyone got any ideas? |

Have a look here. The cheapest way to check is to shuffle the coils to double check the problem still persists with the same cylinders. If not, I would replace all spark plugs if they are fairly old. Failing that it could be injectors. But have a read at this.

Yeah seems a bit iffy all 3 are failing... possible but u never know. Swap the 3 coils with the other 3 then check the codes. If it's still the same 3 cylinders then replace the plugs. If not give the 2 vanos solenoids a really good clean.... fairly easy to get out. If not look into injectors of fuel pumps. See if u can smell any fuel near the injectors incase it's the seals leaking.

So I took the DME out and checked for failed MOSFETs and I found that the one for cylinder 3 is dead. Hopefully a cheap enough fix although I hear they can take an injector or coil with them.

It worked! Had the transistors changed this weekend and I now have a car that runs. I'm still getting a "system too lean" issue though, so maybe the injector/s are bad too. They still tick, but maybe they're damaged and not delivering enough fuel.
