Bluetooth Voice Dialing Question.
OK, so my new 3 is on its way, taking the slow boat from Germany. So figured while waiting I would read thru the manual a few, oh say thousand times..LOL
After reading it I'm still left with a question, I have a Razor V3 with Cingular, I currently have NO voice dialing records stored on the phone or the card. To get my car to call someone in my phonebook by name with a voice command, will I have to create voice records? IF so where,on the phone or the car? The manual doesnt seem to tell me this.

How this works depends on whether you have i drive or not.
i-drive vehicles with a compatible phone will transfer your phonebook and interpret your voice matching it to the display name of your voice entry. No voice tags are required, but rehashing your phonebook adds to the usefulness of thid feature no end (See second link below). Without a compatible phone you can only dial by number. V3 with release "40" (near end of full version string) or later s/w should work. Without i-drive you have to build a separate phone book in the car. see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14824 and http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14642 |

Thanks guys, very helpful. My car will have I-drive on it, so we'll see how it transfers over. Thanks.
Oh btw, how would I find out what version my V3 is? Call my carrier? or look in the phone somewheres?

"Settings" / "Phone Status" / "Other Information" / "S/W Version" Mine is "R374_G_0E.42.0CR". The release level of the software is the "42" part. BMW documents list a particular full version string with 40 there as the minimum compatible software. But the 40 or 42 bit is most likely the bit that matters. Carriers can alter the phone software, so it difficult to guarantee anything (or even be sure what menus are called!). There is a document on the BMW website that lists the latest compatibility information (don't have the link to hand). |

BMW quote the version of the phone which they tested and say "or newer". The 40/41/42 number increments as the phone software is refined, so your phone software is newer than that tested. Therefore you should be OK. Let us know how you get on. |
