is anyone drooling over cadillac cts-v?
- 556hp at 6100 rpm
- 555 lb-ft at 3800 rpm - 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds - a quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 118 mph - 53% front / 47% back weight distribution if gm can manage the price comparable to m3, with the performance basically at m5(or even better), m3 and m5 got a serious competition here. i'm a badge-whore so i'm not particularly thrilled about my car wearing cadillac badge but with the kind of performance numbers they are saying... anybody sold? |

Uhm, no. The only reason why the engine needs this much power is because it needs to lug all this weight around.
Also, I guess it's not accidental that it seems impossible to find any mpg figures. I bet this porker will make the M3 look like it was designed by a bunch of tree-huggers. |

I have driven the old model V, and it is fast, but the suspension needs work. Hopefully for Caddy the new one is more refined. NO, I would not buy one. I am driving the best daily driver there is.

I met an owner of the older CTS-V at the drag strip, and he had put a supercharger on his. I think he said it dyno'd at 450 whp or something like that. It ran mid 12's in the quarter mile.
Anyway, I was talking with the guy and he said he was on his 3rd or 4th rear differential!! He was going easy on the launch because he didn't want to buy another one. I sure hope the latest CTS-V has a much stronger rear end. Sweet car, but I still equate "Cadillac" with "old geezer cruiser".

That car will cause some serious carnage
Cadillac's news that the 2009 CTS-V will officially be rated at 556 horsepower, hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and run the quarter mile in 12 seconds flat from autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/09/2...56-horsepower/ Last edited by Robert; 06-11-2008 at 12:44 AM.. |

I used to have a previous-gen CTS-V (2005). I had it bought back under the lemon law. The car had an uncurable driveline vibration that would cause the rearview mirror to vibrate into blurriness at freeway speeds (65mph+). New transmission, driveshaft, rear end, tires, yadda yadda..nothing fixed it. Lots of other people on cadillacforums.com experienced the same problems as me, and Cadillac's dealer network was abominable when it came to customer service. They denied problems existed and used ANY excuse to deny warranty coverage to try to save a buck. Bottom line is the driveline and chassis of that car was underengineered to withstand 400hp.
Given how much more powerful and heavy the new model is, I remain skeptical that GM, a company in deep financial trouble, will complete the job properly and release a reliable, quality product. 550+hp is incredibly powerful. Alas, sometimes I get the feeling we're living 1970 all over again. These are the best of times. $135/bbl oil prices will ensure cars like these are a dying breed. |
