18" or 19" Rims for Toronto Roads
Hey guys,
I've ordered an E90 335i and am wondering what you all think about keeping the 18" rims that the car comes with or upgrading to a 19" rim. I know I'm going to feel more when hitting a pot hole or when riding on a rough road on the 19's but is it that much of a noticable ride difference versus the 18's? If I won't really notice the difference in ride quality between the two then the answer is simple. Let me know what your experience is and hopefully I can make up my mind. Thanks |

Well I guess I've pretty much made up my mind then. 19's it is without the runflats. Thanks for the tips. It's always good to hear from people who face the same road conditions as I do in T.O.

I've hit TONNES of pot holes... 19s still seem fine.

I totally regret getting 19s. They are heavy, even after ditching the RFTs, and have a very poor but expensive selection of tires.

It's been a couple weeks since my last post on this topic. My dealer said that they only put RFT's on their rims as BMW's are designed for RFT tire technology. This changes things a bit as I could only imagine how rough the ride would be on 19" rims with RFT's.
Now I'm back to my original thought of 18" since the ride wouldn't be as rough with the RFT's. Man this is such a dilemma... I love the look of the 19" 225M's and I also like the 18" 193M's. The 19" obviously more than the 18". Which of these 2 wheels would you guys recommend on a TiAg 335i? That's what I have on order and am expecting in August. |

BMW dealers will only put RFT on their OEM wheels, as you found out. If you're sticking to OEM I'd at least burn through the 19" OEM run flats then switch to a non, or if you prefer, pop them off and sell them to someone doing a lease return, and put your own non-rft's on.
Of course the best option (imo) is to stick witht he 18's for winter (sell the RFT), and get aftermarket wheels and tires. Someone mentioned weight, that's probably the biggest benefit of aftermarket, they're almost always lighter and usually stronger to boot. |
