I think a little more insight in what you are trying to achieve would help. Do you want more bass? Clarity? What are your goals for your sound? If you are going to dump $300 for a set of speakers, I would suggest getting an amp. And if you are looking to get more bass, you won't get much more with the upgraded speakers until you upgrade the subs, or minimally pass more power to them.

Being mid this same thing I can give you some insight on what I have been told (there is also a thread on this recently).

Infinitys are a cheap alternative. If you are really into music however these will probably be less than ideal. Also it seems to me that the more power you send them the more 'off' they sound. If you are not upgrading the amp and just running these off the stock amp, you will probably be allright. Make sure for the front you get the reference comp set with SILK tweeters - TRUST ME.

Don't know much about Hertz.

Focal from what I have been told these are an acquired taste that leans on the 'bright' side.

And you are forgetting Morel, which is what I am putting in. You have the Dotech MkII, the Dotech Ovation and the Hybrid Ovation. A lot of users on this forum have had a lot of success with swapping these out.

One thing to keep in mind is to plan your system completely. If you are going to be adding an amp to power the mids and tweets that will play a huge part in what you get, if you are going to be upgrading the subs that will play a part in it etc. etc. Just plan ahead and save yourself some money and hurt in the process. Don't buy until you have decided on the whole thing, including whether you are going to get an amp, whether to upgrade the subs etc. Good luck.

thanks for your advice.

I just want more clarity in all sounds. I don't want more bass because I hear music in a normal volume.

also I think install and Amp with all the cables is not a good solution for me, is complex.

I want a simple solution that gives my system a better sound, not a higher sound!

I can see no advantage to installing speakers without upgrading the amp.

I would install a Blaupunkt Plug and Play amp, 2 channel (around €200 with the cable) one that drives the front speakers and your underseat subs will make all the difference. You could add the BMW dsp tweeters for €30 for the tweeters and €35 for the trim for them to sit in. They plug into your existing speaker.

This was my install with the 5 channel version and upgrading the subs, but gives you an idea of what is involved.

xupi, I think you misunderstand the purpose of the amp. It is not for louder volume, it is to give it enough power to play things clearly. Adding an amp will assist quite a bit in the clarity you are looking for and they are not that complex or expensive. If you upgrade your speakers you will never get the full value of the speakers without an amp.

If you are budget minded and if you have EU stock system (no tweeters) you could go with a set of infinity coaxials but don't expect your entire sound to change fantastically. It will sound better (particularly clearer) but it still won't sound great. However, if you got an amp afterward your speaker choice would also change... because with some power you should be able run higher power, lower sensitivity speakers (which the infinitys are not).

Really gizze's suggestion is true. If I were you, I would invest in a simple amp that can put power to the subs (which will make them sound MUCH better) and the front speakers. It is easy, takes about three - four hours and will make a world of difference.

That amp in my link took me 40 mins to install, it comes with plug and play cables so not one wire spliced and the 2 channel version will run off the head units power too, so a very easy install.

I usually use Genesis or Audison amps and was expecting this to improve thing slightly, I have been totally shocked by the results and would recommend it to anyone.

Hi,
I've been reading your DIY and I like it because it's simple. Which is the model of Blaukpunt amp?

Maybe i don't know a lot about Amps and their real function and this is the cause i'm writing here!!!

In my E92 where can i put this amp?

I have used the THA-555 PNP amp, this is 5 channels so the main speakers driven off channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 and two Earthquake subs driven off the sub channel.
However, if you go for the THA-275 you will get 2x75w that will drive the fronts and subs direct. It is also extremely small (it is a classD amp) anbd you should be able to fit it under the trim under the steering wheel.
I would drop that trim down and see how much room is there, the amp measurments are on the Blaupunkt site.

They do a 2m cable which keeps it all really neat. Install time for this would be 20 minutes.

Then add the top hi-fi tweeters and the bmw tweeter grilles and you have a really good sounding system that involves no cutting of wires, easy to install and easy to remove.

But more importantly than that, David Villa last night was a legend!!
Come on España!!

Can you tell who I have my money on now England are not in Euro 2008??

About this, I'm searching about this amp and I'll see and ask where I can fit it.
About the speakers/tweeters, with the bmw hifi tweeters is enough? and the front door and back speakers and the subs under the seats, I must change them too?

I think you will be more than impressed with the BMW tweeter when an amp is added.
Plus the sub, mid and tweeter work well together, new speakers tend to sound louder than the sub or not loud enough so it sounds muddy.

I meant, because England are not in Euro 2008 I had to put €100 on a team to give me someone to support, as I enjoy watching teams like Barcelona and real Madrid, and with players like Torres, Ramos (sorry! ) Xavi and Villa they were the obvious choice to support.

Yeah, I would. I swapped speakers first, some DLS R4's, and while they added some top end that was missing they still sounded very closed in, as soon as the amp went in the whole thing came to life.
