Backup bulbs for an 07 E92..?

Are they 1156 or 1157?

They're actually 921 bulbs. I learned this after buying the wrong set of bulbs, doh. The reverse lights do have a sensor and tend to be pretty finicky. I heard people having issues even with resistors...

Since LEDs run less wattage than normal bulbs, they tend to give a bulb out error. Resistors usually solve for this error but in some cases it isn't enough. It's kind of a trial and error process as to which LEDs work. I believe Shinchan is pretty knowledgeable on the subject, a pm in his direction might help.

We are going to double check the fit on this for you guys as we originally thought they were 1156 but it seems to be something different.

We had a chance to check these out and they are a 921 bulb fit but the ones we carry in LED may not be bright enough. If there are a local customers who have an E92 and can swing by, we'll test them.

Anyone else think that the brightness of the stock back up lights are too dim. And before you tell me that back up lights are there to warn others that you are backing up, that is the SECONDARY benefit of these lights. The primary function IS to illuminate the area to the rear of the car to enhance the rear vision of the driver when backing up at night. BTW, don't even argue this point unless you were driving when cars did not even have back up lights at all.

This is a misconception. The reverse bulbs for the 07+ E92 coupes are in fact 921 bulbs as I'm currently testing a number of different LED solutions for these lights.

The E92 back up bulbs are NOT an 1156. They are a 194/921 base with a larger bulb end to better illuminate the housing.

1156 can be used as rear turn signals for the E92. We've not yet tested to see if resistors would work with them (theoretically they should).

Has anyone been successful testing any 921 LED's for the backup bulbs yet? I've tried a set of 921's i got from v-leds.com but they were testy at best.

It was weird, if i would Throw my car into reverse quickly and began backing up they would turn on and not thow a code and go off when i put it into first or neutral. On the other hand, if i would throw it into reverse and just leave it there, it would either not go on at all, or they would go on...then off and a code would pop up.
