aftermarket preformance product help

Hi,

I have a 2007 335i e90 n54 engine. I've been trying to research on some aftermarket products for some catless downpipes, aftermarket intercooler, and BOV kit along with intakes. I know that they have AR/vsrf/arm.... downpipes. I'm currently looking to buy a package deal and wanted some input on these products. has anyone did some testing with these products on and what was the results? is the ARM brand just as good? I was reading up on the reviews, wanted to get a little more feedback on these? what about intercoolers? and bov kits? I also read users putting in there own air intake with DIYs. all opinions welcome on this. thank you in advance.

I have VRSP full charge pipes (turbo to FMIC to Intake) and 7"FMIC on my 2012 335i e92 N55. Never run another brand to compare to. Real joy to install. Meaning profuse swearing was involved. Its a tight fit and I'm not a small guy. If you are talking BOV..you must have something different. Need to be specific to get good answers.

Thanks for the reply, so with your 7" vrsf intercooler and charge pipe, those were a bitch to install? is that what your saying? wasn't it direct fitment in the intercooler part? did you have to modify the bumper to make it fit? the BOV blow off valve kit that I was looking at was tial Q 50mm... I guess I was looking at the ARM site and they had a package with the downpipes, 5"intercooler, charge pipe to fit the tial Q bov, and air intake.... I currently have no mods in the car, but I have the engine apart and will put this back together soon.

I have the ARM 5" stepped FMIC. Love it.

ARM has a package deal that gives you the FMIC, charge pipe w/ BOV. & catless downpipes.

If you don't plan on tracking the and don't want to take a dremel to the backside of your bumper, go w/,- 5" stepped.

I have a Cobb charge pipe because I didn't want the BOV.

Yeah, bumper support needed cutting with the 7", but that was expected and it was advertised as it was much bigger than the stock. the problem was finding out how much to cut. The rest, its just a very tight squeeze as there isn't a lot of room and figuring out what had to go in first, then second etc..and getting the clamps tightened down. The just isn't an abundance of extra space under the hood. Doesn't help I've got rather large hands and arms. No problems once installed however.

Would help if you told the others what car you have, what year and model as well as what engine. As what applied in my case, may not to yours as I have a diverter valve on mine and no blowoff valve.

ARM is good, their FBO package deal is the best bang for buck out there. I have their DPs and FMIC

The only thing about a BOV, at least in my opinion, is that it sounds cool.

The stock DV's do a good job up to maybe 20psi. After that, just look into an aftermarket DV like Forge.

what did you do to take care of the CEL check engine light? is there a program that you run to take care of that? I read on the ARM site for these catless downpipes that I would need a ECU tune or CEL fix? curious to know what was your fix for this issue.

There's a sticky (Official Performance Mod List for 335i) in the N54 Turbo Engine / Drivetrain / Exhaust Modifications - 335i section which lists/discusses all kinds of performance mods for the N54.

Good luck.

I have not installed catless down pipes because I don't want to use a tune. I DD my car.

I just know you will absolutely blow codes if you install catless down pipes and do not have a tune like Cobb or MHD.

You also need to make sure the following are relatively new, if your car is over 100k:

1) spark plugs
2) coils
3) injectors

Also, just know that a tune will use up items I mentioned above at around 2x faster. For example, on an N54, you are supposed to change your plugs every 45k. With a tune, you won't get more than 25k out of them. Coils - 50k vs 100k etc.

You'll probably need to invest into a better FMIC & charge pipe. I personally like the Cobb charge pipe. They redesigned it in 2017 due to fitment issues, and now they are spot on. For $195.00, it's hard to beat it given the quality of Cobb.

Thanks for the link, but these performance mods page are old. They are not updated. I don't see a lot of the newer performance mods on there like vsrf, arm, etc...

There is a recently new thread.
Just have to look in the most recent posts of the last pages of that old thread.

The fix is for states that have emissions tests once s year. It's not meant to have on your car 24/7.

You need a tune like MHD or Cobb that fools the DME into thinking that the cats are still there and or shuts off the CEL code upon start up.

If you have an after mkt FMIC, you will need an aluminum charge pipe. The plastic OEM charge pipe will eventually blow a part (literally) where it attaches to the throttle body.

What does that have to do with the aftermarket FMIC? I thought it was boost pressure that causes the CP to crack/explode? And I will get a CP eventually but I have a backup stock CP laying around for when mine fails so I'll be able to drive my car while waiting for the upgraded one to arrive
