Are HiFi amps interchangeable?

I have an E93 which had a water leak which in turn fried the amp. I need to replace this but there seem to be lots of variants of amp (at varying second hand prices.)

The units fitted to 3-series E90/E91/E92/E93 and 1-series E81/E87 look the same apart from they have different codes on such as 6952360 (E87) or 6960925 (E90) or 9145162 (E93).

Is it necessary to find the exact match HiFi amp for the E93? Does anyone know what would happen with a different model plugged in?

Its just analog connections so the pinout should be the same.
There was a change to the manufacture in 2010 pre 2010's are
black post 2010's are silver . Published specs didn't change.

Hi I am also trying to upgrade my E90 Amp to an F-series Amp. I'm told that in addition to the Amp, a new fan may need to be installed. Does anyone have details on what Amps are good candidates, any watch outs, do I need to upgrade wires etc.

Appreciate any thoughts or related links.

You would be better off going to and aftermarket amp with the Hi FI
setup. The Hi Fi amps are pretty mediocre and that is being generous.
They added a center dash channel in the F series but the stereo people here will tell you it's not really a audiophile solution.
