what is the right engine tempurature?
hi! i have done an hour searching.. but still want someone to confirm..
what is the normal tempurature to be shown on the dashboard? mine is always around 110C i have read people saying that it should always be only around 90C.. is 110C too high? i believe i have oil cooler since mine is 2008 with sport package. so is this normal? sometimes the car go as high as 120C....... i have read in some thread saying that when the car is in ECO mode. it's running at 108C... it's so confusing. can someone guide me thru this please? thanks |

the car has mapped cooling so it adjusts based on load to maximize fuel efficiency. my '02 audi has this as well so the engine runs real hot on cruise light loads then when you get on it to dumps the temps down. if you had a real water temp gauge you'd freak out. the water temp gauge on my audi is fakey (same with GM HIPO cars). nobody wants to see 220-230F coolant when they are on cruise control

35 years ago my teacher told me that I had to learn the Metric System. I asked her "Why" and she told me that everyone in the World would eventually have to use the Metric System because the Imperial system would no longer be used.

Mine runs between 230-260F, mostly 230-240. That's 110-127C in some parts of the universe.
I usually back off a bit as the oil temp gauge reaches 250F. When the car was new, it seemed to run about 10F hotter than now..... Maybe "break in" driving leads to higher oil temps. I've heard its "safe" for short periods up to about 280F (137C). I wish the engine would keep turbos at idle when the engine is too gold (e.g., below 200) and too hot (e.g., above 260-270ish). Of course, I like the idea of traction nanny, even though I don't use a tune or plan to unless it falls in my lap. |

300 F (150 C) is the point at which engine power begins to be reduced. Because the engine control does this, you're not going to blow the engine even if the temp (which is oil temp, by the way) goes above that point. Obviously, if you get close, either you're pushing way too much or there's something else really wrong. Non oil cooler cars can get there relatively easily while it would take at lot of effort with an oil cooler.
That said, mine (with the oil cooler) is almost always at 240 F or below. If I was pushing, I wouldn't worry about 280 F. |

My 08 6MT w/sport runs at 240F on 80F days. It hit 95F last week and my oil temp went to 250F on the highway cruising at 70 mph.
