Anyone switch to an Audi A5/S5?
I've loved the Audi A5/S5 since it came out in 2008 but passed cuz I didn't want or need all wheel drive living in Phoenix. Another reason at the time was I was dead set on an NA 6 and wanted to stay away from forced induction. Has anyone here gone specifically to the Audi A5/S5 and have been happy with your choice? Why or why not?
There's the occasional thread here from people that's gone to other brands like Subaru or Mercedes and eventually come back to E9X's citing ride performance/balance or build quality, etc etc. |

they are pretty conservative cars unless you get the RS5. i do like audi cars, but they just aren't for me.

My wife has an Audi A3 and both of us love it. Comfortable, reliable, great gas mileage and yet fun enough you're not bored. Ive driven the S5 and its also a very fun car but I wouldn't give up the E90 M3 for it. Id say you have to jump to an RS Audi to even remotely close to justifying the switch

I'm thinking about it.
The F3X generation 3/4 are boring to drive compared to my E90 so I never made the "upgrade" because it really isn't an "upgrade" in any way save for tech. S5 is on my radar but they don't have very connected steering and the lot. But at least it's something different. C43 leases like a** so that's out of the picture. |

A friend of mine looked at a S5 (he ended up getting a G37) and when he tried to climb into the back seat to check it out, the dealer was VERY insistent, "oh please sir, don't even try that!". I know that the 2 has a back seat that full sized adults will complain about, but they can actually physically get in and out.

I'm in my fourth year with a 2014 S5 DSG. It's primarily my wife's daily. She loves it and if it were a mt, I would too...still it's very enjoyable. The car's best feature is the optional torque vectoring (sport) differential. Even though this is a large, somewhat heavy coupe, it really can be hustled through the twisties. It's quick too...particularly, the car shines in the 40 to 80mph or the 60 to 100mph sprints. This is my first Audi...No regrets, but obviously there are other neat choices in the segment.
I like the look too. Oh, and at 68, I'm still able to climb in (and out) of the back seat. ![]() Sport differential video. Last edited by 3798j; 04-24-2018 at 06:13 PM.. |

I've never driven and S5, but have had my fair share of seat time in my buddy's B8.5 S4 (6MT). Same chassis so it should be relevant. The car is a beast. Even though most of the weight is over the front axle, it still feels sharp and light enough for a nearly 4000lb car. My F30 328i feels a bit lighter up front (obviously) and definitely more direct, but Audi's deliver a sense of planted-ness and stuck-to-the-road-ness that BMW's don't quite match. Power is there too. The B8.5 I'm familiar with has a full exhaust, is tuned and has an intake, so it's quicker than stock obviously, but even in stock form they are respectably quick cars. Plus, they can be made very quick with a tune, intake and exhaust like the one I'm referencing. They also sound incredible with an exhaust. Also, I'm obviously referencing the Supercharged 6 (B8.5) not the V8 cars. Not sure how the V8's feel.

Yeah, but he wasn't too happy when I decimated him in an impromptu "to the next red light" drag race with my E46 330Ci ZHP. He thought that "on paper" he had more power.

Yeah, there is either a huge disparity in the power some G37/370Z's make or their owners are just full of it. My S52 M Coupe was more than a match for all that I found, as was our N54 135i and even our X1 35i. Maybe I just never found a well driven one or only found those firing on five plugs.

I have no idea what they're thinking because stock for stock the 240i would wreck them, and I don't think that anything short of a turbo and LS swap is going to make them compete with a PS2 B58. |
