Music to test your sound system

I am currently making a CD to bring to the dealer to test my system in.
What's some good music to test a car out in? I am currently picking out music with a lot of different timbres, styles, and that just can serve to really demonstrate a system.
Here is what I have so far:

Mozart (and any classical really for all the different classical instruments)
Moby (different electronic timbres)
Radiohead (different electronic and rock timbres)
Incubus (Rock, diverse sounds)
Bjork (random sounds and arrangements)
Garbage (electronic/rock)
Movie soundtracks (miscellaneous)
Linkin Park (rock, electronic, rap)

For a strong bass test: Benzino/Black Rob - any questions

If rock is more your flavor, can't go wrong with: Metallica - wherever i may roam

i think linkin park is an exceptional cd to test out an audio system, especially reanimation. They use so many different sounds, and incorporate them into good music. I always use the song where Mr. Hann does his scratching and mixing, to show off his skillz. Give it a try.

Here are some of the ones I use as a benchmark when I test Audio systems:

Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell
Tool - Eulogy - Killer bass at the begining of this song!
The Prodigy - Smack my bitch up! - Great song with a good mix of highs and sub bass!
Da Rude - Sandstorm - Good Techno song.
Outcast - Rosa Parks - I don't know any other song with deeper bass than this one!

That's pretty much the only rock band I listen to. Their music sounds great when you bump it. Fort Minor is the "new" Linkin Park. You guys should check it out. It's pretty good. But Reanimation is the best album by them though.

Only one CD needed. And not a copy or MP3 but a store bought original high quality CD - Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon.

I have all their albums, including Fort Minor, and its good, but yeah reanimation is the top one, no doubt. Black Thought always shines the best on their cds.

Forget Mozart, go with anything from Bach that has an organ.

The Vienna Philharmonic´s recordings of the Eroica have a wide tonal range.

Dire Straits Brothers in Arms makes an excellent reference album as well.

Forgot to ask, what is the purpose of the test?

So, there is really no point to your initial question then. You have your personal taste in music as do we all. Within a few hours this thread is likely to crumble into a debate about music - each person arguing his taste is best as if it were a simple point of fact. It's like asking "what religion is the best one?".

To take your initial post seriously - I think your list would do. Jspira also gave very good suggestions (the title track of Brothers In Arms is a great way to find out how much road noise interferes with the sound system). The album I recommended contains virtually every tonal range and many various styles of music and sound.

etc, etc, etc.

Just post your opinions. Half the threads on here are opinions. Maybe more. Colors. Rims. Options. If we didn't have any subjects related to personal tastes, message boards would be kind of boring.

It might be a good way to get some ideas for new music.

I agree - and music is one of my lifelong true loves, and my tastes are pretty diverse. Just an FYI or head's up that this could become a brawl. There are different philosophies for this. One would be to bring a suberb quality media that is known to be excellent in frequency performance, etc. The other would be to say "bring what you listen to daily because that's what really counts". I lean toward the latter for a car stereo. Let's face it, when a tractor trailer is passing you, or some punk in a 96 Honda with a buzz kit on it, you're not exactly hearing sterile music from your stereo. Buying home audio would be another issue all together.

What I don't get is that your info says you currently drive an E90. So what exactly are you testing?? I'm confused.

The question is what do you listen to usually that is at the same time great for testing the system... I listen to some live albums that aren't great quality or a lot of different music that doesn't demo the system well at all.

BTW, I'm awaiting the 330i so it comes with the Logic 7.

Yes, Firebird would be good for the test.

Also, to demonstrate piano (not the instrument) and forte, try Artur Rubinstein´s recordings of the Moonlight (opus 27, no. 2) and Appassionata (op. 57)
