Is a short shifter and rod worth it?
My new clutch (335is upgrade) is being installed right now. I was thinking about doing the UUC short shifter arm and upgraded rod. For those that have them:
- Are you happy with it? - Any trouble spots during install? - Any other advise? Thanks! |

Im sure the burger tuning, and uuc are similar, but i did both lever & connecting rod last week, along with poly bushings everywhere, and modified Delrin e60 oval shift arm bushings, billetworkz shift knob and its much much better. Any hard high rpm pulls would lock me out of 2nd, and i have done 2 3rd to 2nd "money shifts". After all above, there's no loose play and it doesn't lock me out anymore. Very happy! The space between the rod where the shift lever bushings connect with the pin, i added a flatwasher to help it from sliding around and helped with excess play.
While you're there do it! Its worth it.. |

You know what? I really like mine. Also the M shift knob. I have to admit that I think it makes a nice difference in the feel. Not sure it's any faster shifting but it's a good tactile mod IMO. I feel the same way about a nice steering wheel.

Sorry for late responce, Completely up to you, i like the fact theres no plastic/rubber bushings its all metal. Less to wear out or break. Its also shorter, has adjustable height. Eliminates the plastic ball cup in the arm too. Just all around better, firmer, and you can feel the shifts. Removes the "remote" feeling essentially.

The effort is slightly increased but the feel is increased also. A short shifter is definitely worth the money.

I have stock shifter and Msport knob. My friend installed bmw short shifter and the DSSR and it ruined the car. We had to install the stock DSSR since it was causing too much slop. Even then I prefer my stock shifter with some metal washers cut and placed in areas with of the dssr.

I just did the dinan shortthrow shifter when I replaced my clutch/flywheel 6 months ago. It's one of my favorite mods so far, it should have been my very first mod when I purchased the car 8 years ago. I absolutely love it paired with the Bmw performance metal shift knob. Night and day difference. Also refreshed some of the miscellaneous shifter parts at the same time.
