VRSF Intercooler Fin Pack Revision Update!
We just wanted to post a quick thread updating everyone about our new fin pack revision on both our 5" stepped street and 7" street cores. After extensive research and testing we've decided to upgrade both the internal and external fin packs on our standard cores in order to better suit the upgraded turbo solutions that have now become available.
Any 5" stepped street or 7" street intercooler that has been ordered in the past couple months will already have the denser fin pack which is now almost double the density of our older fin pack. The denser fin pack offers a higher overall surface area which significantly increases heat dissipation and keeps the intake temps nice and low. We also now include the lower chargepipe free of charge with the purchase of any VRSF intercooler Here's a comparison of the new fin pack: http://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-7-front...2-e90-e92.html For those looking to max out their upgraded turbo setups or interested in single turbo applications, we also offer a HD version of our 7" intercooler which we recommend for applications up to about 650whp and our 7.5" race intercooler which is the only intercooler proven to support up to 1000whp on Motiv's record breaking shop car. http://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-7-5-ste...2-e90-e92.html |

I ordered a 5in fmic a month ago and it doesn't appear to have the updated fin pack. Am I out of luck or is it possible to upgrade?

Unfortunatentoy we’re not offering trade ins. This is a product revision although you’re existing intercooler has proven to be the best in its class with thousands of units on the market. It just got a little better

We'll have logs up soon, just waiting to hear back from our testers. There is a noticeable difference in temperature control with the higher density internal and external fin pack.

Will you be able to let us know what the inlet/outlet pressure differential is on the old fin pack vs. the new fin pack as well? While I'm sure the new fin pack will cool better, the side effect is that it restricts flow. Interested to see how much it restricts the flow.

The restriction isn't substantial enough to cause any quantifiable performance differences. This density is equivalent to the ER/ETS/Wagner at half the price.

New fins to the left, old fins to the right...
Someone had to go there. I am guessing that the 5" old fins are fine for all but the racers down south. The new ones are just more better. But how much really is adequate? |

This new update will definitely make people buy new over used. This is a nice middle ground for those with full bolt ons. Continuing product updates is good to see as a consumer.
