Inlets Discussion
Hello,
It is about that time that I grab a pair of vrsf stock location inlets! With that being said, I'm curious as to what you JB4 users have done to maximize gains from this mod as far as map or custom map 6 tuning goes. At the same time, I am curious about a rough idea of the power I should be making with the addition of inlets and the current mods in my signature. Currently during 2nd & 3rd gear pulls, I manage 15.5psi tapering to 12 near redline here in MD in the hot months and 17psi tapering to 14 in the colder months. I then plan to get the 7" FMIC from VRSF late this summer and will then officially dyno at that point- since I don't have any performance mod plans after that point... except for "MAYBE" upgraded turbos or fuel pump but that wouldn't be for a while. Thanks for any info!

1) FMIC 2) Charge Pipe 3) Better Airbox or BMS cone filters 4) Inlets 5) Outlets 6) Better Turbos You could argue to swap 5 for 6, and I wouldn't disagree. If you are set on VRSF, no issues. They make a good product for a reasonable prices. There are other companies that make comparable products for less $$. If your trying to get the most bang for your buck, you should do more research. |

I’ve heard many people recommend FMIC before inlets and it makes sense to really maximize the full benefit of inlets and all over mods as well first.

I'd get the FMIC before summer. Inlets really only shine when you're at the limit of stock inlets and right now with a stock FMIC you have to run significantly less boost pressure and ignition timing. (So you're not so much at the limit of the stock inlets).
You'd have a lot more potential gains with the FMIC and it's a hell of a lot easier to install too. I'd put the inlets further down the mod list. |

Stock turbos are already way out of their efficiency range and being oversped at 12psi at redline. They were never designed to flow that much air so you also have high IAT’s, then timing pulls follow...slippery slope.
It always amazes me how folks will spends hundreds & hundreds of dollars changing inlets outlets and everything but the main bottle neck. |

1) FMIC - 5" stepped or 7" (to trim and cut or not to cut, that is the question) 2) Charge Pipe 3) Better After Mkt airbox like the AFE Momentum GT or a version of dual cone filters. Hot air vs Cold air debate. 3) Inlets - 1.75 or 2" (2" would be more difficult to install and are only good for after mkt turbos) 4) Outlets - 1.5 or 2" (unless you have a tune and after mkt turbos, you won't see the full potential of outlets). Nonetheless, even with stock turbos you will see a gain in HP & Torque. 5) After Mkt Turbos. 6) a tune like MHD, JB4 or Cobb. Side note - downpipes will free up 25-30hp, but you NEED a tune in order to avoid CEL codes. |
