Groundhog eviction?
I have a property where a neighbor has a groundhog(s) living under a garden shed.
Many times in the morning when I go there to chk out the lawn I often see the groundhog on the neighboring property. Had planted some laurels and had a lot of lawn work done recently, as well as being concerned that the groundhog tunneling network could be extensive and distant. Due to a history I’m kind of fed up with asking him politely to remedy the situation - he did something really crummy to another neighbor concerning a fallen tree. Would you call the county to have an inspector chk code violation and force the neighbor to trap the groundhogs? Or do u think complaining about a groundhog is like bitchen about a big squirrel? |

Is it a code violation to have a groundhog in your yard? I somehow dont think it is. If it was being kept as a pet, then yeah, probably not legal. But I dont think you can call the city out on your neighbor because you dont like the rodent living in his yard. As long as the groundhog stays in your neighbors yard, who cares? if he happens to surface in your yard, then you can trap him yourself and relocate him.

As for keeping a wild animal as a pet, you are right also, because there are statutes at the state level (PNW) where it is a violation to attract/feed/water wild animals on one's property. |

These re all over the place here - ours has become a defacto pet, since it was living on our property before we moved in. If you kill it, I'm told most likely another family will just move into it's den (worse, b/c they will dig even more). We just enjoy ours as part of the scenery, and have figured out what to plant that they don't particularly like to eat. I don't think that they tunnel all that much, either.
