Natural weed killer

Need to kill some weeds and i'm done trying to keep up by the good ol' fashioned way of pulling them. Not a fan of the box store brands and looking for a natural recipe; dogs and family kids (none of my own) are frequent visitors.

Anyone have a reliable recipe that I mix on my own and elbow drop these biatches?

Nothing works.

They banned pesticide here a few years ago and absolutely NOTHING works. There's a racket where people smuggle the real stuff in from buffalo.

What racket? A bottle just materialized in my office, which has now made its way to my garage. For no money exchanged. And its the good concentrated stuff.

Here's the thing, I still have a lawn care company spray their useless "Fiesta" product and put the signs up....that way as long as I don't have the best looking lawn, just a nice lawn, nobody suspects me of putting the good stuff down.

A quick trip across the boarder to pick up some weed and feed or killex and it's all over for those pesky dandelions.

Yeah, I just hit them with some Roundup. I can't believe its a "controlled" substance under lock and key at Home Depot. Whatever. I apply liberally to all patio stones/walkways, and my firepit.

I have to say though, I was kinda impressed with the tenacity of the weeds in the firepit though. I built the firepit two years ago...only two years ago. And when building it, I scraped down a good few inches in the dirt with an excavator blade...so I was starting from a good dirt base...I thought. From there, I laid down heavy fabric over the dirt, then put a few inches of limestone on top of the fabric and tamped it down with a machine, and then put a few inches of river rock (loose) on top of the limestone.

And yet, despite all odds, there were some weeds this year.

I should have fricking salted the earth before putting the fabric down - I wonder if that would have done anything.

White Vinegar. Just spray it on them and watch them turn brown and die. It's not as fast as Round-Up, but it works for me every year. I thought everybody knew this one from a Grandma.

Round up or vinegar is useless, he needs a selective weed killer and I repeat ... nothing works. The entire province has been looking for a solution for years and so far ... nope.

I know you hate Canadians, eh, but Lups do you think we could send a few goats their way this year?

At our water well yard, we hired out a few goats last night. The owner brings them by, locks them in our yard, and they eat all the weeds. A few days later he comes back, collects his animals, and they move on to the next location.

We were considering where to dig the pit, for one to "accidentally" fall in there over hot coals. I LOVE me some chivo birria!!!!

I love Canada! Well, not during the hockey season or while the do their milk raping thing, but I'm sure there are some good Canadians out there!

Goats are the best way to maintain a yard. I'm all in for a campaign to help Canadians as long as we make it about informing them about their milk abusing ways.

Depends on grass type you are trying to protect and weed you are trying to kill. I have used baking soda on St. Augustine grass and it does kill most weeds but not the St. Augustine (which is almost a weed itself). However, I think it would kill most other grasses.

If the weeds aren't in the lawn. Round up. Glyphosate will kill anything for a couple months. You don't have to use name brand, it just has to have that chemical. Tractor Supply Store, Rural King will mail order it.

Can't use those...Vinegar. You will have to apply it every two weeks for six to eight weeks. It will kill most weeds.

Then there is salting the ground. This would depend on the weed.

Next there is always good old gasoline. Nothing will live in gas soaked soil for several months.

You can also go in the opposite direction and over nitrate it so nothing can grow. Pure fertilizer will burn the roots but eventually it will degrade and weaken over time and the weeds will come back.

When they are dead get a propane flame thrower. They are great for clearing the dead weeds a couple weeks later. Don't buy it at Harbor Freight spend a few extra bucks and get a good one from Home Depot or Lowes. You don't want to mess around trying to burn off weeds with a torch that only runs when it wants to. Nothing like standing next to a full propane tank while trying to get the thing to light. If you want to get weeds out of driveway cracks you can skip directly to this. You just have to understand the roots will come back in two to three weeks.

Good Luck, John

Why do you think he needs a selective weedkiller? OP didn't say they are in his lawn. If Roundup or vinegar don't work for your weeds, man you've got some tough weeds

I think the OP was sick of picking weeds from his lawn, so I gather there are a sufficient number of them that spot treating (vinagar or round up isn't an option). All of the natural safe stuff (Weed B Gone etc) don't work worth a shit, they are often vinegar based and only to be used for spot treating. You'll need a selective weed killer (Killex) which won't hurt the grass so you can apply it to the whole lawn. You can also get a good "weed and feed" which will green up the lawn and get the grass to thicken up which will in the long run keep the weeds in check. FTR I worked for a lawn care company about 35 years ago. The thing that pisses me off is Ontario banned herbicides a number of years ago, however municipalities and golf courses can still use them but not john q public.....

Does Roundup expire? Because I laid a pretty liberal spray on some weeds on my walkway and they still look pretty perky 5 days later. Either that, or I am growing some super weed here that is going to take over the world.

Going to hit them again with a fresh bottle in a few days.
