Door Jamb overspray removal?

Is it possible to remove OLD overspray from a door jamb with a wetsand? This is on a black Mercedes c32 and the overspray would be more than 3 years old.

I'm just curious if I should even attempt a small spot.

Have you tried claying already? Do you have experience wet sanding?

I haven't actually tried claying yet, but I really doubt it will do anything because of how much overspray there is in the door jamb. I will give it a shot first but I'm 98% sure it won't work.

I have wetsanded after rock chip repairs using a base/clear touchup process and it worked great. So I'm not afraid of wetsanding but am not sure if it will work in this instance.

Try some aggressive clay, something like Meguiars Aggressive or Clay Magic Red. Detailed Image stocks the Clay Magic Red. Remember to always try the least aggresive solution first, I would be weary of wet sanding the door jambs because I would think the paint would be quite thin, and buffing out the sanding marks puts you at risk of going through the clear, not to mention there are many awkward areas of the door jambs that would have to be polished by hand which is never fun.

Thanks, I have some Meguiars Aggressive clay so I'll definitely give that a valliant effort first. I'll let you know how it goes [fingers crossed].

Overspray removal success! (well sort-of)

Well here is my follow-up. I tried the agressive clay and as I feared it didn't even dent the overspray.

Next step, 1000 grit sandpaper! I gently sanded for about 30 minutes, constantly spraying with a water bottle and wiping the area with a microfiber cloth to gauge my progresss. I slowly removed the overspray and pushed the transition line towards the exterior edge where you won't be able to see the transition.

Everything was going great until I sanded through the paint in a small spot near a crease in the door jamb Doh! I sanded even more carefully after that. Once I had moved the overspray transition line right next to the door edge, I hit the area with some very agressive polish to remove my sanding marks, followed by Menzerna SIP and Menzerna PO106FF and voila! Looks like new!

Even with my small boo-boo, it still looks 10X better than before and I feel much more confident doing more intensive corrections. Fun stuff! Next time I'll get an even finer sandpaper and go even more slowly.
